Middlesbrough Close In On Deal For Brighton And Hove Albion Winger

Middlesbrough are currently sat second in the Championship following the first half of the 2025-26 season.

So far, Boro have picked up 46 points with the side also winning 13 games.

Meanwhile, they are sit just six points away from league leaders Coventry City although are being chased by Ipswich Town, who are third in the league currently.

However, with Middlesbrough not winning a game in their last five Championship fixtures, the outfit may view the January transfer window as an opportunity to improve their squad and to give fans hope that the side can extend the gap currently present over Ipswich.

So far in the window, the outfit have signed Leo Castledine from Chelsea following the midfielder’s loan spell at Huddersfield Town.

Meanwhile, Boro have also recalled Law McCabe from his loan spell with Plymouth Argyle with him set to stay at the club for the rest of the campaign due to playing for both Boro and Argyle this season.

Now, it appears that the outfit are closing in on their next move with the side close to signing Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton and Hove Albion, according to journalist Lorenzo Lepore on X.

Furthermore, the journalist has stated that personal terms have already been agreed with the player which leaves club-to-club negotiations as the only barrier to this deal.

Finally, Lepore has revealed that the deal is on a permanent basis.

The winger has been out on loan at Serie A side Cremonese in the campaign so far, with him making seven appearances in the league during this spell.

Prior to this spell, the winger had been with Burnley in the Championship as he played a role in the Clarets’ promotion to the Premier League with him making 37 appearances and scoring four times.

Meanwhile, he has also spent spells at other Championship outfits such as Ipswich and West Bromwich Albion showing the experience that he has in the English second tier.

Now, with the deal looking likely to happen, fans may look towards Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg to see if he provides any further updates on when Jeremy Sarmiento could sign for the club.

If he was to be signed in the next couple of days, he could make his Boro debut against West Bromwich Albion but it is more likely that he will make an appearance against Stoke City next week.
