Millwall have expressed an interest in a top flight goalkeeper as the Lions look to improve their squad this month.

Millwall are reportedly interested in signing Sunderland goalkeeper, Anthony Patterson on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 25 year old has been playing second fiddle to Robin Roefs, since The Black Cats purchased the shot-stopper for a reported £9.1 Million in the summer.
Sunderland currently sit tenth on their return to the top flight.
The English ‘keeper did start for Sunderland in the Championship en-route to promotion.
He played 42 times for the Wearside outfit last season, conceding 42 and keeping 14 clean sheets.
Patterson has a 64% save percentage last time out in the Championship.
His high claims sit at 24; improving significantly in claiming crosses and dealing with aerial pressure.
While not the most aggressive sweeper‑keeper, he reads danger well and rarely hesitates on high balls. This can be regarded as a key reason Sunderland trusted him as their long‑term No.1.
Journalist Calum Mills notes that Patterson does have a significant area of weakness, his distribution. “Sunderland’s young goalkeeper shines as a shot-stopper but must refine his kicking to reach the top.”
Kicking aside, “He’s a brilliant shot stopper. He’s pulled off some tremendous saves in the last three years since he claimed the main jersey, and has undoubtedly kept us in games.”
Patterson has near enough spent his entire career at The Black Cats.
Patterson started out in their youth academy, before making 6 senior appearances in the 2018/19 season. In 2021, Patterson had his first loan experience; Notts County.
Since 2022, Patterson has player 163 times for Sunderland, earning high praise along the way.
Millwall fans can expect a keeper with real Championship pedigree if Anthony Patterson arrives.
He’s a battle-hardened shot‑stopper who proved his quality with 14 clean sheets in 42 league games during Sunderland’s promotion push, establishing himself as one of the division’s most reliable last lines of defence.
His reflexes are sharp, his positioning is calm under pressure, and he’s already shown he can handle high‑stakes moments.
After falling down the pecking order in the Premier League, he’s hungry for minutes and ready to reassert himself; the kind of motivated presence that fits Millwall’s identity perfectly.
