With the coming weekend the first of 11 without an EFL fixture, attention has turned to the summer transfer window. Norwich City had an extremely positive second-half of the 2025/26 season and have been touted by many as ones to watch ahead of the 2026/27 season.
However, it is no secret that the Canaries will have to nail their recruitment if Philippe Clement is to achieve real success in charge of the Norfolk-based club. Here are a few specific positions they may look to strengthen in particular.
In a season of stark contrasts one of the few constants for Norwich was their left-back department being plagued by injury.
Despite signing Jeffrey Schlupp in summer and Harry Amass on loan in January to provide cover for the exciting duo of Ben Chrisene and Lucien Mahovo, Kellen Fisher was relied upon repeatedly in this area of the pitch.
All four left-sided options struggled with various injuries throughout the campaign and with both Schlupp and Amass departing the club it is clear that Ben Knapper will be looking to bring in an additional body to provide both competition and cover in the left-back spot.
Panamanian Jose Cordoba had an exceptional second half of his second season with the Canaries and will be featuring at the World Cup in a few weeks time. However, at current he is the only left-footed central defender at the club meaning that this is an obvious area that Knapper and Clement will want to target over the summer.
Identifying an appropriate player to fill this void and potentially challenge for a starting place will help deepen this Norwich squad significantly. So far, Norwich have been linked with a number of exciting players in this position, including the promising Luke Graham.
Despite recent news of captain Kenny McLean penning a new two year deal that will see him stay at Norwich into 2028, he is now 34 years of age and not getting any younger unfortunately.
Although Mirko Topic should return from an ACL injury that ruled short his first season at the club, defensive midfield is undoubtedly an area Norwich will want to strengthen.
There have been rumours of a return for the dependable Sam Field, signed on loan on deadline day of the January transfer window, on a permanent deal.
Knapper may also look to go back in for Glenn Kamara, after his January attempts fell just short, but either way he will want to make sure that there is a further name in the midfield department as the Canaries look to fight for promotion.
Clement will also be keen to have additional attacking resources at his disposal, particularly in the wide areas.
Right-wing was an especially troublesome position for the Belgian last season and his solution was a combination of utility player Liam Gibbs and number 10 Paris Maghoma. He would likely welcome more of an out and out winger to complement the left-sided options of Papa Amadou Diallo and Ali Ahmed.
