Peterborough United were held to a 1-1 draw versus fellow strugglers Burton Albion at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Posh started fast with Matthew Garbett having a free kick well saved by Brad Collins. The Visitors came into the game and had numerous chances to ahead with Tyrese Shade blasting over from a yard. Charlie Webster’s deflected effort gave the visitors the lead before the break. However, Harry Leonard would level up on the hour mark.
However, after today’s result it does leave both sides 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
Here are my player ratings from the game:
Alex Bass is one of the main reasons Peterborough United scraped a 1-1 draw this afternoon. Bass made two crucial saves from Tyrese Shade in the first half before stopping a lobbed attempt in the second half. Bass commanded his box and is one of the only Posh players that can hold his head high after today’s game.
From one extreme to another and James Dornelly’s struggles continued in a Posh shirt today. A poor defensive display, a lack of urgency and some poor defending for the Brewers goal all played apart in his low rating. Dornelly does excel at attacking set pieces as seen recently but today that was also off missing two clear headers.
Today was not Tom Lees greatest game in a Posh shirt however despite his one error he was solid enough. His slip that nearly cost Posh was soon forgotten after his consistent dominance in the 18 yard box. For a 35-year-old with over 2,000 minutes played this season Lees consistency should be hailed by Posh fans.
David Okagbue’s improvement has impressed a lot of Posh fans since the start of the season but today was a slight dip. Okagbue had a nervy first-half giving the ball away numerous time which nearly cost Posh. However, second-half just like Lees his dominance in the air proved vital.
Harley Mills struggles after returning from his hamstring injury continued today with another below standard performance. Mills struggled and played a part defensively in the Brewers opener and struggled to get to grip first-half. Second-half however, he did improve earning 0.5 of a rating.
Mr consistent struck again today with another solid performance from the 25-year-old. Collins consistency is going to be missed by Posh next season as he controlled this game from midfield. Collins nearly got the assist to a winner with Harry Leonard having his shot saved.
Garbett has the potential to be a Posh star and we saw flashes of that today during the game. However, his inconsistency within the same game brings his rating down. His driving with the ball is superb however, his lack of end product is the reason he cannot get higher than a 7 for me.
Hayes once again struggled today, partly at fault for the Brewers opener and his lack of end product is a real concern. His ability to drive past people is superb but there is nothing after that which needs to be rectified quickly.
My man of the match is Harry Leonard. Being asked to play out of position in the number 10 role and Leonard was superb. His finish for the goal was a powerful strikers finish and now on 14 for the season in League One. Posh must build around Leonard’s strength for next season.
On the other hand however, Kyrell Lisbie had his worst game in a Posh shirt so far. Kyrell struggled versus Port Vale and struggled today once more. There seemed to be a real lack of urgency from the winger whose done so well this season, yet he struggled to beat Udoka Godwin-Malife once.
Young David Kamara on the other hand worked himself into the ground today. Being a constant pest to the Burton defence and showcasing his high potential for the future.
Bolu struggled to get into this game today, did not see much of the ball much like Thursday but is this the right situation to place the pressure of relegation on a 17-year-old.
Pemi in his 15 minute cameo was a constant presence for the Burton defence to handle and worked well with Harry Leonard earning him a rating of 6.
Khela put himself about, as he always does in the Posh midfield, replacing the cramped up Matt Garbett. however he did not see much of the ball in his seven minutes of being on the pitch.
Frith probably, should have been introduced earlier in the game as he came on and did look threatening.
