Peterborough United End Of Season Awards

Peterborough United have had a rollercoaster of a Sky Bet EFL League One campaign. As the season comes to a close I have chosen my end of season awards.

Player Of The Season: Archie Collins

Posh’s player of the season is a choice between four players in my opinion. However as good as Kyrell Lisbie, Alex Bass and Tom Lees have been it has to be Archie Collins. Collins despite turning down a new deal in August is the only player to play every League One game this season.

The central defensive midfielder is the clubs joint assist leader with 7 this season alongside 2 goals. Alongside this, Archie’s stats have been impeccable with a 84.6% pass accuracy, 199 recoveries and finally 48 interceptions. These stats show how crucial Archie has been this season to Posh’s midfield. He has been held in high regard by Posh fans all season and is many fans player of the season.

Numerous games Archie has dominated this season such as the 1-0 win over Leyton Orient to his masterclass versus Rotherham in the 5-0 romping in March. His consistency is going to be a massive miss for Posh next season and replacing him is going to be a hard job.

Signing Of The Season: Tom Lees

Most people will say Kyrell Lisbie, Harry Leonard or Alex Bass for signing of the season which are all respectable options. However, I have gone for Tom Lees who was signed on a free from Huddersfield Town in the summer.

Lees, mostly has been an ever present highlight in that Posh back four this season. Without Tom Lees as seen from the tweet below Posh have struggled badly.

Lees brings experience and quality to a very raw Posh backline with young James Dornelly and Harley Mills as full backs. He also when being beside irishmen David Okagbue, improved him hugely. Okagbue was a stand out over the Christmas period showing his full potential thanks to Lees leadership.

Lees has played 2,000 minutes this season at 35-years-old and seems to get better and better every week. His consistency and fearless approach to play through the pain has been a major reason why Posh climbed the table. Manager Luke Williams was quoted saying “We know Tom Lees and heโ€™d head a filing cabinet if I threw it up in the air” speaking to PT Ben Jones.

Young Player Of The Season: Jimmy-Jay Morgan

There are several players that could be young player of the season but none of them have matched the consistency of Jimmy-Jay Morgan. Morgan, signed on loan from Chelsea and scored 3 goals in his first 3 games for the club.

He has gone on to score 12 goals this season and assist 3 more forming a formidable partnership with Harry Leonard. Morgan alongside his goal scoring prowess has the most goals per 90 minutes at the club with one coming every 47 minutes.

Morgan really has raised his game since February becoming the main man for Posh whilst Matt Garbett and Leonard were out injured. Jimmy-Jay since February has 7 goals and 2 assists in 12 games. The Chelsea loanee certainly has the talent to be playing the upper echelons of the Championship or higher.

Unsung Hero: Carl Johnston

The unsung hero for Posh this season is a tough but I have gone for Carl Johnston. A constant professional and has been playing out of position for the majority of the season. Carl played from December to March as a make shift left back in cover of the injured Harley Mills.

Once again Carl’s consistency has been crucial to keeping Posh out of a relegation battle in League One. Signed from Fleetwood Town in January 2025, Johnston always plays with his heart on his sleeve and has had some superb performances this season.

Performance Of The Season: Lucca Mendonca versus Stevenage

There have been many impressive performances for Posh players this season but I have gone for Lucca Mendonca versus Stevenage. The 18-year-old made his starting debut in a makeshift back four as George Nevett and Tom Lees were ruled out ill.

The result and whole team performance was very disappointing however, Mendonca was the highlight star of this game. His three goal saving blocks before half time was the icing on the cake to his debut. Lucca will certainly have a big part to play for Posh in the future.
