Peterborough United are battling Oxford United, Reading and a Championship club to sign Colchester United winger Kyreece Lisbie according to Ramy Abou-Setta, reporting for the Reading Chronicle.
Posh and Reading have been battling for the 22-year-old’s signature since January but Oxford United have advanced their pursuit according to the journalist.
Posh have been linked with the 22-year-old intermittently over the last year since signing twin brother Kyrell Lisbie last summer.
Lisbie enjoyed a successful debut campaign in the football league notching up eleven goals and seven assists in 44 games. His brother has a valuation of 500k-750k which would land him in the sixth highest sale in League Two history according to transfermarkt.
Reading chased the 22-year-old in the January window but that move fell through on deadline day and Posh may be taking advantage of this. The 22-year-old also caught European attention from Belgian side Zulte Waragem.
Kyreece Lisbie had a fruitful League Two campaign for the U’s scoring eleven goals and assisting five more. Posh are looking to offload three wingers this summer and do need wingers to replace.
Kyreece would come in ahead of young starlet Bolu Shofowoke who is the soul surviving right winger. Posh do also have history in singing players from Colchester with Bradley Ihionvien and Frankie Kent both joining from the U’s,
The 22-year-old would most likely, be starting week in, week out in supplying Harry Leonard with balls into the box. Posh really lacked a creative spark last season with Leonard feeding off scraps the majority of the time. Kyreece may inject pace and finishing into a Posh front line in desperate need of some creativity.
However, a few concerns are that Kyreece only had a 42% successful dribbles last season which is below Cian Hayes who had 45%. Posh need creativity desperately and if Kyreece cannot do that who will.
Kyreece has had a good first season in League Two, no doubt about it, however, are there better options that Posh should look into. One of these is Tommi O’Reilly who was at Crewe Alexandra on loan from European champions Aston Villa. The 22-year-old shone at Crewe with seven goals and 11 assists in 46 games.
Posh have also been linked with him since the end of the season but will face strong competition from other League One sides according to the Peterborough Telegraph. O’Reilly has 20 G/A this season whilst Lisbie has 18 G/A. Lisbie has a higher successful dribbles percentage but O’Reilly has significantly more chances created.
Posh need a player who can inject creativity to supply Harry Leonard’s needs alongside Matt Garbett. O’Reilly may suit this more than Kyreece. Another player who Posh could look at is Barnet winger Ryan Glover. Glover is another player who has been linked a lot with Posh who had a very successful season in Barnet’s return to the EFL.
Glover notched up 11 G/A in all competitions supplying 78 chances to a fruitful Barnet frontline. This move would also make sense with Posh’s history with the Bees. Posh have had a good history with signings from Barnet including, Jack Taylor, Ronnie Edwards, Ephron Mason-Clark and Ryan De Havilland.
