Sheffield United have had a whirlwind of a season in the Championship, going from rock bottom to sitting mid-table.
This is ultimately a disappointing season for the Blades after reaching the playoff final last season.
If they wish to return to the quality they showed last season, some major personnel changes may have to be made.
But who should the Blades cut their losses of this summer in order to achieve this?
Adam Davies has been at Bramall Lane for four seasons now, and has never been given a true chance to shine.
Since Michael Cooper’s injury, he has been given his biggest chance, but he has not made the most of it.
The Welshman has only kept two clean sheets in the past ten games.
The dip in quality between the sticks is very noticeable and may have been a factor in United not making a last minute push for playoffs.
Ultimately, a back up goalkeeper should be a quality choice if an injury occurs to the starting goalkeeper, and Davies doesn’t provide that.
Sheffield United signed Alex Matos from Chelsea over the summer and expectations were high for the 21-year-old.
However, the midfielder has only made eight appearances all season for the Blades.
It appears that Matos is no longer part of Chris Wilder’s long term plans for the squad.
With him being young, the Blades may still be able to get a reasonable fee for the midfielder in the summer transfer window.
What may be a controversial pick, the Blades may be best off cashing in on academy graduate Oliver Arblaster now while his stock is still relatively high.
Arblaster has not looked the same since returning from his long term injury, and higher competiton from the likes of Sydie Peck and Jairo Riedewald have meant his game time has been limited.
At just 22-years-old, some clubs may be willing to pay a decent fee for a young and proven midfielder.
When he arrived from Stoke City, a lot of expectation was placed on Tom Cannon’s back after bagging eleven goals in the first half of the 2024/25 season.
However, Cannon has not been the leading talisman that Blades’ fans would’ve hoped he would be.
Just six goals since arriving in Sheffield means he is certainly not the first name on the team sheet.
With strikers like Patrick Bamford being more prolific, Sheffield United may look to sell Cannon and recoup some of the large fee they paid for him.
The second striker on this list, Tyrese Campbell has a less impactful season this year.
Just six goals for the Blades, as well as an injury that has kept him out since March, this season will be one to forget for the 26-year-old.
Chris Wilder may look to sell Campbell and invest the money into another, more prolific striker to rotate with Patrick Bamford next season.
However, there’s no doubt that Campbell still has the quality to ag goals in the Championship, so he may bounce back next season.
