Watford’s season has been full of managers, memorable wins and very disappointing performances, and they have only one more game left against the Champions Coventry City at Vicarage Road.
The Thoughts of Liam, Kaiden and Joel are taken into account in this article for their Hornets’ end-of-season awards.
Liam: “Has to be the 2-3 away win at Derby County. A real spirited performance to fight back from 2-0 down, and to top it off, an Edo Kayembe brace to send the away end into bedlam.
Joel: Birmingham City (H)
New Year’s Day, great vibes and a Tom Ince hat-trick. Added to a great run of form (which peaked at this game and then fizzed out).
Really comfortable win with absolutely no jeopardy. Great goals, plenty of chances, entertaining and some very exciting performances from other players such as Irankunda, Alleyne and Chakvetadze
Kaiden: “Game of the season, it’s a really tough question, especially supporting Watford.
For me, it has to be the Middlesbrough home game. A 3-0 win. Completely dominated them half to half. A very pleasing afternoon at the Vic, granted there haven’t been many.
Liam: It’s got to be Jeremy Ngakia. He has had his fair share of injury worries, but this season he’s stepped it up another level.
Three Goals and four assists, and has provided solidity in both attack and defence. Maybe our season bubbled out due to his injury.
Joel- Stephen Mfuni (“Didn’t play much as he got ruled out for the season from injury quite soon, but was genuinely insane.)
“A level above Max Alleyne, and it was absolutely ridiculous considering his age and lack of experience”.
Great player that will go far. Most surprised by how fast he became a starter, it took about one game after being signed to be one of the first names on the team sheet.)
Kaiden- “Jeremy Ngakia, without a doubt in my mind”.
“From spending a lot of time in the treatment room to being one of our best players and having his best season in a Watford shirt is a fantastic achievement, not only for him but the club as a whole“.
Liam: Kwadwo Baah
“A player who had a lot of eyes on him going into this season after impressing last season. He’s had a lot of injuries this season and hasn’t looked at the races when he’s been on the pitch. Hope he’s back to his best next season if he stays”.
Joel- Kwadwo Baah
“Absolutely love him, but this season has been so underwhelming”.
“Very stop-start due to injuries, and it seems like none of the managers we’ve had has really got on with him”.
“He has also been nowhere near as impactful as he was last season, seems to get marked out of games, but his lack of movement doesn’t help him either”.
“I thought he’d really push on and become the leader of the attack after his breakthrough last season, but this season for him has pretty much been a whole lot of nothing, only 1 goal and 1 assist as well, which has been a big drop off”.
Kaiden- Edoardo Bove
“We expected big things, we didn’t get the promised product. A vanity signing, as some may highlight within our fanbase, glimpses of quality, but disappointed in the end”.
Liam- Marc Bola
A player with Championship experience with Middlesbrough. I expected him to impress, but not as much as he has in this Watford side. Two goals, three assists, and has been a real threat going forward during attacks and in defence. Hope we keep him next season.
Joel- Othmane Maamaa
“Less than one million pounds for him, I believe. He has been really good and the most exciting and entertaining player for sure”.
” He will definitely generate us significant profit in the future and was a good look on the club to have our player win African YPOTY”.
“Might even go to the World Cup (absolute steal at the price for a quality, quality player)
Kaiden- Marc Bola
“Always consistent at left-back for us all season long. He is going to be a crucial part for the club going forward”.
Liam- Othmane Maamaa
“A player who has surprised me with his talent this season, we signed him for only £250,000, a real steal with his potential, and he has impressed straight away in English football, scaring defences with his pace and skill”
Joel- Othmane Maamaa
“A ridiculous player and in my opinion the best at the club, but not played enough to be POTS over Louza”.
“An Insane player, however, and will go right to the very top, unplayable at times, just not quite consistent enough and suffered from injuries/ fitness as well as U20 World Cup, etc., limiting his minutes.)
Kaiden – Othmane Maamaa
“When we signed Othamane, I knew we had a top-quality player on our hands, and he has proved his worth. It would be an absolute pain to see him leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window, but I think, unfortunately, it’s a matter of when, not if”.
Liam – Imran Louza
“Could only be one player for me, despite a dip in form and being ready for a move this summer. If it wasn’t for Louza, we would have been down towards the bottom of the division. Gutted we are likely to lose him this season”.
Joel- Imran Louza
“Our most consistent player has lots of goal contributions, some great runs of form and a solid performer who has been good week in week out and very good on occasion“.
“Really, no other option apart from potentially Ngakia, but I think he’s not been anywhere as good as people have claimed he has been”.)
Kaiden – Mattie Pollock
” I believe he has been consistent all season and has never really dipped below a six out of 10 on the player ratings scale. It’s really close this year, especially between Pollock and Ngakia, but for me, Pollock just edges the conversation.
A season that has been underwhelming to say the least for Watford. Fans will be hoping for a better display next season.
