It is two years to the day that Peterborough United were inches away from reaching a play-off final eventually losing out to Oxford United.
After the conclusion of the 2025/26 season last Saturday the last domino from the starting team fell.
Jed Steer joined Peterborough in January 2024 on a free transfer making his debut against Charlton Athletic.
reword this
Steer made an immediate impact at Posh, starring in their Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign and winning over supporters, which led to him securing a two-year deal after the loss to Oxford.
He endured a difficult start to the 2024/25 season but recovered to play an important role in Posh’s unexpected back-to-back Vertu Trophy triumph against Birmingham City.
Jed retired at the end of the 2024/25 campaign after his contract was mutually terminated by the club.
Jadel Katongo joined Posh in the summer of 2023 on loan from Manchester City.
The 21 year old was incredibly versatile in his first season playing not just as a central midfielder but also as right-back.
His role became ever more important in the second half of the season after Peter Kioso was recalled.
Katongo struggled in the semi-final first leg versus Josh Murphy but held his own in the second leg.
The former England youth internation rejoined Peterborough in 2024/25 but heavily struggled to find his form of the 2023/24 season due to injury.
He left Manchester City earlier this season and joined Turkish Super League side Kayserispor in January playing eight games for the club.
Josh Knight had a great tenure at Posh with two separate stints between 2019 and 2024.
Knight impressed throughout the 2023/24 campaign, building a strong understanding with Ronnie Edwards at the heart of defence. He netted the opener against Oxford, sending London Road into raptures. His deal expired in June 2024, after which he moved to Bundesliga 2 outfit Hannover 96.
He once again became a fan favourite in Germany scoring a derby day equaliser for the ‘die roten’ against Eintracht Braunschweig.
Knight only played 24 games for Hannover before moving back to England in August 2025 joining Portsmouth.
The second part of that crucial centre-back partnership was young prodigy Ronnie Edwards. Edwards had a sensational career at Peterborough capturing the eye of fans across the country on multiple occasions.
He also won EFL League One Young Player of the Season for 2023/24. The 23-year-old has moved on to bigger and better things since leaving Posh in the summer of 2024.
Edwards was sold for a reported £3.5 Million pounds to the time Premier League Southampton.
However, the move to Southampton just did not work out with only one Premier League appearance.
He joined QPR on loan in January 2025 and he has excelled once again joining them permanently in January 2026.
Alongside this he was also part of the England U21 EURO 2025 winning team.
From one Posh prodigy to another Harrison Burrows.
The 24-year-old had an outstanding campaign for Peterborough in 2023/24 scoring six and assisting 15 times alongside picking up the Player of the Season award.
Burrows moved on from his hometown club to join Sheffield United in July 2024 for around £3.5 million pounds plus add ons.
There he had an outstanding debut season and was only a kick of a ball away from Premier League football if not for Tom Watson.
The Blades lost the Championship play-off final last season and struggled to recover with Harrison struggling to match his heights of his first season.
With the talent this lad has it looks to only be a matter of time until we see him in the Premier League.
Onto midfield now and Cypriot star Hector Kyprianou. Kyprianou had a sublime campaign rising to the heights of Jack Taylor the season before.
He developed a great partnership with Archie Collins and formed a carousel of play with Burrows and Ephron Mason-Clark.
The 24 year old is one of the few who stayed in summer of 2024 however, he struggled to recreate the same form.
However, a highlight moment for him in a Posh shirt was scoring a crucial goal as captain in the Vertu Trophy final.
In the summer of 2025 Kyprianou moved to Watford on a free transfer but has since been plagued by injury.
The last domino of the starting eleven to fall and that is Archie Collins.
The “Peterborough Pirlo” was finally confirmed to be leaving Peterborough on Monday after an outstanding three year tenure at the club.
Collins has improved drastically since his first season at Posh and has been a constant starter for the club over the last three years.
The 26-year-old turned down a new deal last summer yet still played 45 games for the club running himself into the ground for the badge.
He has already been linked with Championship sides Watford, Swansea City, and League One outfit Leicester City.
Onto the more attacking players now and we will start with Kwame Poku.
Poku also stayed over the summer of 2024 after an excellent campaign. However, he found new levels in 2024/25 keeping Posh safe from relegation single handily with 12 goals and eight assists. Three of those goals coming against arch rivals Cambridge United in a 6-1 battering.
The 24-year-old missed half the season through injury and joined QPR in the summer of 2025.
Once again, same as Kyprianou, his season has been plagued by injuries with only 16 appearances to his name however, there is no doubt that Poku could shine in the Championship next season.
The next player that needs to be talked about is Joel Randall. Randall was a player who struggled in a Posh shirt until 2023/24.
He showed his class in that season and exactly why Peterborough had spent £1.2 million pounds on him.
However after a falling out with manager Darren Ferguson in September 2024 fans turned on the 24-year-old.
Randall was sold to Bolton for £1.2 million pounds in January 2025 and has struggled to kick on. He was moved out on loan to Blackpool in January 2026 but once again failed to make an impact.
From one extreme to another as Ephron Mason-Clark is the polar opposite of Randall. Mason-Clark was sold to the Sky Blues in January 2024.
Many Peterborough United fans saw this as a mistake but he was loaned back to the end of the season.
The 25-year-old showed his quality but could not get his team over the line despite being inches away from scoring the equaliser.
Since then Ephron has excelled in the Championship and after another play-off heartbreak last season, he finally got his dream to play in the Premier League playing a crucial part in Coventry’s promotion winning season with ten goals and six assists.
The final player from the starting XI is Ricky Jade-Jones.
Jones had an inconsistent 2023/24 season and similar can be said in the following season as well.
The 23-year-old scored eleven times in League One in 2024/25 but turned down an opportunity to sign a new deal.
Jones decided to join German Bundesliga side St Pauli in the summer of 2025 which angered chairman Darragh MacAnthony.
The Englishman has struggled with injuries in his first season however scored a superb half volley against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park.
