It may only be early days in the summer break, but the transfer rumours are murmuring already. League One side Wycombe Wanderers are in the market for a new goalkeeper, as they look for a new potential number one.
According to Senior Journalist Alan Nixon, Wanderers are eyeing up Plymouth Argyle’s Conor Hazard.
The Chairboys faithful had been left frustrated throughout the 2025/26 season with the goalkeeping situation. Summer singing Mikki Van Sas started the season as first choice with Mike Dodds, before Michael Duff came in and turned to the experienced Will Norris as his main starter.
Both had their fair share of issues in their stints, with a handful of individual mistakes each. While it’s natural for this to happen to goalkeepers, they became far too frequent in South Buckinghamshire.
There was somewhat of a fallout between Norris and the fans towards the back end of the season, but Duff supported and stuck with the former League One champion right up until the final game of the season where Van Sas finally got a league appearance under his newest head coach in the 3-2 win vs Rotherham.
The unsettled nature throughout didn’t help anyone’s case and became one of the main talking points in the post-season inquiries. Alongside a new striker, a fresh keeper change was seen as the first port of call for the summer. It seems the fans may get what they want with the club making a move for Hazard.
Plymouth man Hazard finished his 25/26 season with 10 clean sheets in 29 league appearances – two less than Wycombe Wanderers’ Norris. However, he also conceded eleven less goals, albeit with Norris playing five extra games. The imposing 6ft 6in Northern Irishman would be a welcome addition to Adams Park to compliment a blooming partnerhsip of Dan Casey and Anders Hagelskjear at centre half.
His main highlight from his time at Plymouth was keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool in the FA Cup. Two stunning saves in added time ensured his side beat the reigning Premier League champions.
Conor Hazard has a bright career background as well, including European competition appearances and a stint at Celtic where he won the Scottish League Cup in 2020. Add these to the 11 international appearances for his nation and you have a well experienced keeper at the top levels.
It’s a tough ask for someone to come in and instantly fix the persistent problems and whoever comes in may well face some teething issues.
However, you can’t help but think Hazard is one of the better options Wycombe could put on their list with the experience and stature he would bring to the side. A keeper with two Championship seasons plus a full League One season under his belt making a move to a side with Championship aspirations this season seems like a no brainer, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out across the next few weeks before the window officially opens.
