So far, in this EFL League One campaign, there have been some questionable and shocking results with promotion favourites dropping points. However, League One fans have received lots of entertainment throughout. Now we are going to list 5 teams that we think have overperformed so far.
Bradford City
Our first overperforming side so far this season is the Bantams, who were promoted to EFL League One after their last-gasp promotion from EFL League Two last season. Most EFL League One supporters and EFL fans in general in pre-season predicted the West Yorkshire-based side to finish mid-table or the bottom half of it after their promotion.
However, the Valley Parade outfit has made 10 new additions to their squad so far this window to suit the challenges League One will bring, and so far they have been proved to be successful with the Bantams sitting 4th on 11 points, and them being unbeaten in the League and cup so far leads us to believe that they deserve to be on our list of overperforming teams so far this season.
Stevenage
The second overperforming side on our list is in the form of The Boro, who finished the League One 24/25 campaign 14th last season on 57 points. During pre-season, multiple Bookmakers and fans of the EFL predicted Stevenage to finish mid-table again or just outside the playoffs, even with Stevenage still adding 10 new players to the squad in order to improve on their finish last season.
However, with five games into the 25/26 campaign, unexpectedly, Stevenage are in one of the promotion spots, with them being joint second with promotion favourite Huddersfield on 12 points. In our opinion, this earns the side a spot in our top 5 overperforming sides.
Lincoln City
Now moving on to the most unexpected overperforming side in our opinion is in the form of Michael Skubala’s side, Lincoln City, who positioned 11th on 61 points in their seventh season in EFL League One. With the Imps losing key players, who consist of Paudie O’Connor, Sean Roughan, and Ethan Erhahon, all joining fellow EFL League One sides, and them only signing four players so far this window.
Most Bookies and EFL League One fans predicted Lincoln to finish in the bottom end of the table or a position lower mid-table, given their transfer window so far. Even with it still being early in the season, we think that Lincoln City holds a place on our list of overperforming teams, with them currently placing 7th in EFL League One on 10 points.
AFC Wimbledon
Our penultimate overperforming side on our list is in the form of The Dons, who were promoted to EFL League One after successfully winning the playoff final last campaign against Walsall. In pre-season, according to the Bookies and EFL League One fans, Wimbledon were one of the relegation favourites, with them losing the core of their side from the playoff final and them scoring a lack of goals as well as bringing in 9 new players who may take a while to gel.
However we have deemed The London based side to be going against the odds early in this campaign and overperforming with them placing 10th on 9 points after completing their first 5 matches in EFL League One since the 2021/22 season.
Doncaster Rovers
The final overperforming side on our list is Donny who were the EFL League Two tittle winners last season after claiming promotion at home against Bradford City. Most fans of the EFL and League One predicted the Yorkshire based side to carry their momentum from last campaign into the 25/26 season as well as improving their side with 9 new signings they made in order to stand them in good stead to have a strong mid table finish. I
n our opinion Doncaster are doing just that or even better with them using their momentum to support them in positioning 8th so far this season on 10 points this is why we understand that Donny are overperforming so far this season.
