5 Players To Watch – Crawley Town vs Swindon Town

Crawley Town take on Swindon Town at the Broadfield Stadium this Saturday. Two teams fighting at opposite ends of the table, who will come out on top?

Here are my five players to look at for when the two teams face each other this weekend.

1. Aaron Drinan (Swindon Town)

The numbers prove that the 27-year old striker will pose a significant threat to Crawley’s backline as he is currently League Two’s top goal scorer with 18 goals to his name from 29 league games, and second for goals and assists combined.

17 of his 18 league goals have come from inside the 18-yard box proving his clever movement and positioning inside the penalty area with an expected goals from shots on target at 16.2, which is the highest in the league.

Drinan is effective at holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into play with some clever short passes.

He joined the Robins in the February of 2024 with this is now his second full season with the club and he has really stepped up to mark this season having played a key role in getting Swindon in the position they are currently.

2. Joe Snowdon (Swindon Town)

The Leeds United academy product joined Swindon at the start of the season and has impressed in his first full season of professional football.

He has featured 37 times and scored on four occasions. The 22-year-old plays at right wing-back for the Robins and has been one of the standouts in his position this season.

Whoever features on the left-hand side for Crawley will have to be weary of Snowdon’s attacking threat down the right flank, which will create an intriguing battle to keep an eye on.

3. Ronan Darcy (Crawley Town)

Ronan Darcy re-joined the Reds in January on loan from Wigan Athletic after spending the first half of the season on loan at Chesterfield.

The attacking midfielder has arguably been Crawley’s most creative player since linking back up with Lindsey’s side and has been a bright spark in a struggling Crawley side.

He provided the assist for Jay Williams last minute equaliser with a delightful cross which met the head of the Crawley captain.

Crawley fans know his capability from the promotion winning season and he will be looking to replicate a similar feat during his second stint at the club to help the club stay afloat amidst their relegation battle.

Could he haunt his former side in Swindon Town and score his first goal since his return to the Reds.

4. Jacob Chapman (Crawley Town)

Many Crawley fans will agree that Jacob Chapman has been the Reds best signing from the January transfer window and Crawley fans have taken straight to him.

The Aussie, who is on loan from League One side Huddersfield Town until the end of the season has proven himself to be a brilliant shot stopper and organiser of the box with an impressive range of distribution, which are all part of his expansive repertoire.

Since joining in January, Chapman has featured nine times for Crawley. During that time his has kept three clean sheets and averaged a 79.5% save percentage.

He also has 63. 9% of successful passes from the back, which is an important statistic in a Scott Lindsey side.

5. Ollie Clarke (Swindon Town)

The experienced and versatile player has captained Swindon under Ian Holloway this season. He most recently scored a brace in the Robin’s win over Barnet in which they were 1-2 victors.

The skipper has had five goal contributions from 23 league games. The 33-year-old brings a real fighting spirit into the midfield for Swindon and is effective at making tackles and stopping attacks.

He will be up against Williams, which will be a feisty encounter in the middle of the park and another interesting battle to watch out for.
