5 Things You May Have Missed in the EFL This Weekend (4-6 April)

The EFL never fails to bring you the best and worse moments in English football. With 72 teams going at it every weekend it can be incredibly hard to keep up with.

From the good, to the bad, to the downright funny, here’s five things you may have missed from the EFL this weekend.

Coventry City’s Howler

Last week it was Hull City, this week it’s Coventry’s turn to have a defensive howler.

Frank Lampard’s team were taking on promotion rivals Burnley in one of the biggest games of the weekend. Burnley, trying to get into the top two and Coventry trying to cement their play-off position.

Two early goals made the game 1-1, the Sky Blues good value within the game and then it all went wrong. Miscommunication at the back following a long ball over the top, the defender leaves it without telling his goalkeeper, neither collects the ball and Jaiden Anthony slots home.

To make things worse, that would be the goal that saw Coventry lose 2-1. Not one anyone will want to see back.

Bradford City Fever

Bradford City are seriously in the mix for promotion out of League Two. The Bantams sat second going into Saturday’s clash with Crewe Alexandra, knowing a win could take them top after Walsall lost the early kick off.

It’s not just the team’s position that has made them make this list, rather the upturn in support for the sleeping giant.

In the club’s last home game, Bradford broke their record attendance for a league game with 23,381 at Valley Parade as they beat Colchester United 4-1.

Seizing the momentum, the Bantams kept prices down to get fans in again.

In front of 22,214, Bradford went top of the table, beating Crewe 2-0 and putting themselves in pole position to get out of the EFL’s bottom tier. A huge club, showing its weight and potentially moving forward.

Charlie Hughes Last Minute Header

As things off the pitch steal the headlines, on the pitch, Sheffield Wednesday’s season has begun to fizzle out. On Saturday, they hosted Hull City, with the Tigers needing points to pull away from the relegation zone.

Wednesday was edging the game but couldn’t put any chances away. Hanging on, Hull would end up with one final chance.

Lincoln launched a free kick into the box and Charlie Hughes pulled off a world beating header to send the away end insane and send his team home with all three points.

Stevenage’s ‘Mini’ Takeover

League One’s Stevenage took on Crawley Town this weekend, but something was different at the Lamex on Saturday.

The club had handed a number of roles over to young fans. From the Chaiman, to the Safety Officer, to the Social Admin. The professionals took a day off and left it in the hands of the youth.

Whilst Alex Revell’s men would go on to win 3-1 after a flurry of late goals, it was the day’s Social Admin, Cooper, who stole the show with some beautifully authentic posting across social media.

Luca Barrington Hit’s Top Bins

Back to the art of wonder goals and it was the turn of Grimsby Town’s loanee forward, Luca Barrington.

Facing Morecombe, at 1-1, knowing a win would land the team in the play-offs, Barrington took a touch at the edge of the box and let rip to place one in the top corner.

The Mariners would go on to win 3-1 but there’s no looking past Barrington’s ripper, something you just can’t beat.

There’s no way we will have included every obscure moment from this weekend’s EFL action, certainly not with just five picks. Let us know what we missed in the comments below.
