AFC Wimbledon will be playing their first EFL League One game since 2022 on the 1st of August against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
Ahead of this fixture, I sat down with AFC Wimbledon fan Alfie Edgeworth (@FPLEdgeworth on X) to review all things AFC Wimbledon. This will be their first season in League One following promotion.
Before we start, I would like to thank Alfie for taking part in this AFC Wimbledon Interview. His responses are insightful and reflect the current mood within the Wombles fanbase.
“The Promotion Winning the campaign had many highs and lows, ending with a massive high. Many would say we overachieved, but I feel like our team was good enough.”
“My favourite moment was Myles Hippolyte’s goal just before halftime in the playoff final, although a close second is beating MK away from home in the FA Cup.”
“The Transfer Window has been a struggle because of our limited financial resources, and we still need four to five players now, so I would say a five out of ten.”
“Our best signing is a close toss-up between resigning Alistair Smith and Nathan Bishop, although I’ll give it to the goalkeeper, as adding a three-year contract is amazing.”
“Going into the remainder of the window, we need to sign a starting right wing-back and more wing-back cover, and also add to the front line, which is mostly inexperienced at the level.”
“The Club is currently quite frustrating to support because on the pitch we’ve had our best season in years, although the people in charge of the club are failing to make the decision about 50+1, which many think we need if we want to progress further as a club.”
“It will be a very hard task for Johnnie Jackson to deliver success, as we don’t have the money to be able to give him the players he wants, and so we’ve missed out on many key targets because of that.”
“The game that I am most looking forward to is probably Cardiff (A), as it’s a new away day against a team that was in the Premier League just over a decade ago, and so although we won’t win, it’s another one of the 92 ticked off.”
“Wimbledon’s best player currently is Joe Lewis; he’s a physical defender who has just as good distribution and could arguably step up into the lower end of the Championship, in my opinion.”
“My prediction for how this season will go is having our back against the walls for the majority of the season, but I think we’ll finish 20th and survive against the odds like we did last time for many seasons in League One.”
Again thank you to Alfie for his time to organise this interview and Thank you to you for reading the AFC Wimbledon Interview. Any feedback ten please just drop us a comment!
