Peterborough United have confirmed the addition of shot-stopper Alex Bass from Notts County on a permanent contract for a fee somewhere around the region of £300 Thousand Pounds, with the 27-year-old making the switch from League Two to League One.
Moving from Notts County to Peterborough, who didn’t enjoy a successful season for the large part last year, could be seen as a questionable step for Bass at this stage of his career, but after consistency in-between the sticks with his former side, a League One move was always on the cards.
What Qualities Can Alex Bass Bring To Posh?
Alex Bass has plenty of attributes within his locker that could unleash a fantastic version of himself. A substantial 12 clean sheets with Notts County last season showed just how good the 27-year-old is in goal, but it is other statistics that make this a fantastic addition for Peterborough.
Through the usage of FotMob stats, Bass managed to record a save percentage of almost 75% last season, making him one of the best shot-stoppers in the division.
Alongside his fantastic save rate, the Englishman managed to succeed in 66.5% of passes, and also a classy record of long balls makes Bass a brilliant player to have.
Peterborough certainly know that they need to improve on their defensive structure, after a rough time last campaign.
Conceding 81 goals in the league last season was at all not what The Posh were looking for. Darren Ferguson’s side know they need improvement, and signing such a superb Shot-Stopper could just be the first of a few important steps taken in the transfer market.
Where Does Bass’ Departure Leave Notts County?
With Bass leaving Meadow Lane, it leaves Notts County in a seriously challenging situation, with minimal senior goalkeepers in their ranks. That’ll mean that both a new managerial appointment and also a couple of additions into the goalkeeping department are required this summer.
At this stage, it’s unsure where NCFC could end up looking for a Bass replacement, but all that can be said is that they’ll need one pretty soon. It isn’t an ideal situation, but there are some quality options in the market.
