Anis Mehmeti Reflects on ‘Special Moment’

Anis Mehmeti cut a delighted figure after Ipswich Town’s 3–0 win over Swansea City, reflecting on a performance that showcased both his growing influence and the team’s renewed confidence.

The winger opened the scoring with a stunning early strike before playing a key role throughout, and his post‑match reaction offered insight into his mindset, his relationships within the squad, and the belief building at Portman Road.

A Goal That Meant More Than Most

Mehmeti described his opener as a moment he will remember. His curling strike into the top corner after just three minutes set Ipswich on their way to a dominant victory.

“It was a special moment,” he said. “I scored at Wrexham with the away supporters, but today was a bit more special. The important thing was the three points.”

He admitted he thrives on responsibility in the final third. “That’s my game. I put pressure on myself to deliver… Even in games where your performance might not be good, you’ve got to find ways to affect the game.”

Finding Ways to Influence Matches

Known for spectacular long‑range efforts, Mehmeti revealed he enjoys the simpler finishes just as much.

“To be honest, I like scoring boring goals!” he laughed. “It means I’m in the box and making clever runs… I’m delighted with the goal.”

His movement and willingness to attack space continue to make him a threat in McKenna’s system.

Responding To Setbacks As A Team

Ipswich’s response since the 5–3 defeat at Wrexham has been impressive, with wins over Watford and Swansea restoring momentum.

“The Wrexham loss wasn’t good enough,” Mehmeti admitted. “Before that, we weren’t good enough… Now, two games in a row we’ve won, and we’ve got to show that consistency. Every game is a cup final.”

He stressed the need to maintain standards: “We’ve got to keep playing and keep winning.”

Praise For George Hirst & Ivan Azón

Mehmeti was full of admiration for Ipswich’s in‑form strikers, both of whom scored again at Portman Road.

On George Hirst: “As a striker, sometimes you go through such hard patches. Next thing you know, you’re scoring because you’ve found rhythm… Hirsty works hard every day. He’s relentless in the way he trains.”

On Ivan Azón: “They are two top strikers. If they keep scoring, that’s healthy competition. Today, Ivan scored, then Hirsty came off the bench and scored again.”

He believes competition is driving standards across the squad. “In the team, there’s so much competition. It’s healthy competition. We’ve all got to push and drive each other on.”

Building Chemistry With Leif Davis

Mehmeti’s inside‑forward role allows Leif Davis to attack the flank with freedom, something the Albanian believes is developing well.

“This year, he’s been a bit different with Jaden and Clarkey. They want to keep the width. Me, I’m a bit different,” he explained. “I want to come inside and keep Leif on the outside because he’s so fast.”

He believes the partnership will only improve: “We worked well at times… It’s just relationships, knowing what he wants and what type of runs I like to make.”

Loving Life at Portman Road

Mehmeti says the atmosphere at Ipswich has already made a huge impression on him.

“I remember coming here with Bristol City. I always knew the atmosphere was rocking, but now to be a part of it is a special feeling for me.”

He added, “I’m loving every moment, and I feel like we can do something special this year.”

While he avoids getting carried away by online praise, he feels the support clearly. “I try not to look too much into social media… But I feel the love in the stadium, I feel the love in the fans, and that’s what motivates me every day.”
