Earlier this week, Birmingham City confirmed the signing of striker August Priske on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
The forward, previously of Jong PSV, made his debut on Saturday as the Blues drew 1-1 with Stoke City.
Now, with the closing months of this season still to come, this piece outlines why Priske is a good signing for Birmingham and why he has the potential to be great for City if he hits the right form.
Whilst with Swedish outfit Djurgården, Priske scored 24 times in 52 games helping the outfit to secure a fourth and fifth placed finish in the Allsvenskan respectively.
| Team | Season | Goals |
| Djurgården | 2025 | 19 |
| Djurgården | 2024 | 5 |
| FC Eindhoven | 2023/24 | 3 |
As seen in the above table, Priske really came into his own during the 2025 season with Djurgården. If he can continue this form with Birmingham, he could become a force to be reckoned with in the Championship.
Signing for the Bluenoses, Priske is aged just 21 meaning he has a lot of potential going into the future with City.
Furthermore, given he has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with Birmingham, it gives both him and the club time to develop his skills and find a formula that allows him to work at his best and produce his highest level.
However, given the length of his contract, the Blues have an opportunity to create and shape Priske into the ideal forward for them, one that can both score goals and provide for the outfit where needed.
Priske can play in a variety of positions including on both wings, even if his preferred position is in the striker role.
This gives Birmingham more freedom which could aid them when other attacking players (such as those on the two wings) are injured.
Meanwhile, given the length of time August Priske will be back at the Blues, managed Chris Davies could look to develop the 21-year-old’s skills in these positions both to build on his versatility and to give City the best chance of success.
The success that the signing of August Priske will bring to Birmingham City can be said to be dependent on how the club decide to utilise him.
If they give him the freedom to develop and guide him down the correct path, Priske could become a great signing for the Bluenoses.
But, an absence of freedom could lead to him feeling trapped which may limit his progression.
Therefore, this signing has huge potential but it’s how that potential is used that will really count in both the short-term and long-term.
