Barnsley Prepare Bid for Dangerous League Two Winger

Barnsley FC are reportedly preparing a bid for Barnet’s versatile right winger Ryan Glover, with the Tykes hoping to beat out other clubs to secure the 25 year old’s signature.

Reports emerging this morning suggest that the South Yorkshire side have identified Glover as a primary target to bolster their attacking options for the remainder of the League One campaign. However, this deal may not be straightforward. It is understood that Bristol Rovers have already made a formal inquiry regarding the player’s availability, while MK Dons are also monitoring the situation closely.

With the transfer window slamming shut at 7pm today, Barnsley will need to move quickly to fend off competition.

Who is Ryan Glover?

Born in Yeovil, Glover spent a decade in the AFC Bournemouth academy, gaining a strong technical foundation before cutting his teeth in senior football with loan spells at Weymouth and Aldershot Town.

Since joining Barnet permanently in 2024, his development has accelerated, making him a prime candidate to take the step up to League One football.

He has been one of the standout performers for the Bees, who currently sit 12th in League Two. Known for his energy and high work rates, he fits the profile of the dynamic, tactically flexible forwards that Barnsley have frequently targeted under Connor Hourihane.

While primarily a right winger, Glover is comfortable playing on both flanks and even in the middle. This utility has made him ever present for Barnet so far during the 2025/26 campaign, where he has racked up over 2,500 minutes of football across all competitions.

Despite racking up only five goal contributions so far in the league this year, his underlying statistics prove he can contribute from wide areas.

With 46 chances created so far this season, 11 of those being big chances, he can facilitate for the players around him. Out of possession, he is also a proficient presser, with 115 ball recoveries he will aid the high pressing system that Hourihane aims to employ.

For Barnsley, Glover represents a good value signing that adds even more depth to a front line that is becoming increasingly dangerous. After the arrival of Scott Banks on loan from St. Pauli, the Reds bench is becoming deeper, something pivotal for a side who have to play twice a week until the next international break.
