Barrow have signed 21-year-old Killian Barrett on a permanent deal from Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday
League Two club Barrow have today announced the permanent signing of 21-year-old Killian Barrett from Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Owls website.
Barrett never got to make his debut for Wednesday, however, he did earn a spot on the bench in the EFL Cup in 2024 against Premiership side Brentford. The Owls went onto lose on penalties.
Irishman Barrett has had stints out on loan with Solihull Moors, Rochdale and Boston United. He was recalled by Wednesday whilst at Boston to join League Two side Barrow on a permanent deal.
During his loans, the 21-year-old has made 22 appearances, finishing with the 0-0 draw with Braintree Town on the 10th January.
Barrett made 19 appearances across last season during his spells with Solihull and Rochdale, achieving seven clean sheets during his stint for both clubs.
Whilst on loan at Boston United he has made three appearances but none of those were clean sheets, however, he did receive an 8.2 rating on Sofascore during the clubs 2-2 draw with promotion hopefuls York City.
Why has Killian Barrett chosen Barrow? The Bluebirds have just one experienced stopper in Wyll Stanway, so are looking for competition for their 24-year-old first choice keeper.
The club do have 22-year-old Ben Winterbottom but he has made just three appearances for the side this season.
It would be remiss to not mention the struggles of Sheffield Wednesday since the departure of chairman Dejphon Chasiri.
The club have received 18 points in deductions over the fiasco and currently sit on -7 points.
They sit bottom of the Championship and look destined for relegation to League One.
Barrett will not be leaving Wednesday over the clubs situation, more so the chance of game time with his new club.
Competing with Wyll Stanway will bring his game along and gain him valuable experience.
