The Robins are said to be leading the race for the player as they look to strengthen their squad in the coming days.

Bristol City are one of the outfits that are aiming for success in the Championship this season with the Robins currently sitting seventh in the league and just one point outside the play-off places.

With this in mind, City (who finished sixth last season), may be looking to follow a similar path at the end of the season.

But, considering they lost to Sheffield United heavily in the semi-finals of play-offs last year, City may be looking for a different outcome this time round should they make it into the top six of the Championship.

One way Bristol City may look to make their chances of finishing inside the play-offs better is by recruiting in the final week of the January transfer window.

So far this month, the Robins have signed Sam Morsy following his spell as a free agent whilst also gaining the services of George Earthy on a loan basis from West Ham United.

Meanwhile, a number of players have left the club, both on a temporary and permanent basis’, with names such as Josh Stokes and, most recently, Anis Mehmeti who joined Ipswich Town.

Now, according to Pete O’Rourke on X, City are leading the race for Irish teenage sensation Billy O’Neill ahead of several European sides.

O’Neill is currently playing for Bray Wanderers in Ireland and has also represented Ireland at youth level, demonstrating his experience already at just 17 years old.

Furthermore, a move to Bristol City could offer the opportunity to develop more experience whilst also offering the chance for him to show other clubs what he can do.

With a link made between Billy O’Neill and City, it remains unseen whether this would be a signing for the first-team or for the youth academy.

But, whichever option is pursued, fans may look towards Bray to see what Wanderers fans say about the the Irish youth international.
