Birmingham City are set to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Tommy Doyle on loan, in a deal which includes an option to buy. The Blues have seemingly beaten Championship Rivals Sunderland to securing Doyle’s signature for next season. This is according to a report by Football League World.
Chris Davies’ side have made their return to the Championship stage at the first time of asking following relegation in 2023/2024, and The Blues seem to be taking their transfer business seriously, with Doyle being a statement signing for Birmingham ahead of next season.
The likes of Sunderland and Wrexham were apparently believed to be interest in tying up a loan deal for Doyle, but it seems that Birmingham have beaten the pair in securing the switch.
What Doyle could bring to Birmingham City
Tommy Doyle is only 23-years-old, and as Birmingham look to set their squad up for a competitive season back in the Championship, the Wolves Midfielder could be a perfect addition into the middle of the park for The Blues.
Across the last two campaigns with Wolves, Doyle has managed to notch significantly high percentage statistics within his pass accuracy, hitting 85.4% in 24/25, and previously acquiring a successful pass rate of 86.4% in the Premier League through 23/24, according to FotMob.
The levels of which Doyle can seemingly spray possession across the park could be a massive benefit for Birmingham, who will look to implement a passing-based style of play similar to what helped them on their way to the League One trophy last campaign.
Is Birmingham City The Right Fit?
The last time Doyle operated at an EFL Championship level, he played with great success with Sheffield United. We personally believe that the style of play that Davies likes to play with will make St Andrews the ideal destination for the Wolves midfielder.
