Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of Danish striker Mathias Jørgensen, making him the club’s second January signing. The 25-year-old has agreed a long-term contract at Ewood Park, with the option to extend by 12 months.
He could make his debut against Ipswich Town if all relevant clearances, including a working visa and international clearance, are approved.
In his first interview with RoversTV, Jørgensen spoke about his delight at joining the club.
“What an exciting opportunity I’ve got here and I can’t wait to get started. I’m buzzing sitting here and knowing that I’m a Rovers player now.”
He described Blackburn’s history and tradition as a motivating factor:
“I think the history of the club has been alive for a long time. So the club has a big, big history and I think it’s about taking care of that history and trying to get the club as great as possible again.”
Playing in England has always been a personal goal for Jørgensen.
“English football has always been something you looked up to when you’re sitting in Denmark. To get the chance to play in a club like Blackburn Rovers, it was an easy choice for me to sign up here and get going when I got the opportunity.”
Reflecting on the moment the move became a reality, he added:
“If you asked me before my career, and I needed to make a bucket list, I would have said playing in England was a goal. When I heard that things could get through in a good way, then the butterflies started a bit in the stomach.”
Rovers have been desperate for firepower at the top of the pitch this month, following Andri Gudjohnsen’s injury and the departure of Makhtar Gueye. Jørgensen offers pace, intelligence, and versatility across the forward line.
Though he has played most recently out wide, he sees himself as someone who can use his speed in multiple attacking roles:
“I’m a fast player who likes to use my speed. I love to be on the last line,” he said.
“I love to be around the back four, the back five, to run in behind and be as aggressive as I can be. Take some initiative, get in the box where the goals are getting scored and try to set up my teammates if I can use my pace on the sides.”
“In the last couple of years, I’ve played on the wing. I’ve been on the wing and been a bit on the side to use my pace a bit but I’ve always been a winger or a striker. I love to get in where the goals are scored and to get as fast as you can to the goal.”
Jørgensen arrives after a short but productive spell at Bodø/Glimt, scoring four goals in 10 league appearances as the club finished second in the 2025 Eliteserien. He leaves the Norwegian side after just six months, having signed a long-term deal last summer.
He earned the move following a prolific period at AaB, scoring 27 goals and contributing nine assists in 52 games, and previously impressed at Esbjerg fB, where he netted 19 goals in two seasons. Jørgensen also has experience in MLS with the New York Red Bulls, adding international experience to his skill set.
Described by the club as “a versatile and hard-working attacker capable of operating anywhere across the frontline,” Jørgensen brings the pace, physicality, and intelligence needed to thrive in the Championship.
With his combination of goalscoring ability and adaptability, he offers Blackburn fresh options as they aim to make an impact in the second half of the season.
