Blackburn Rovers have signed versatile midfielder Taylor Gardner-Hickman on a season-long loan from EFL Championship side Birmingham City.
The deal includes an option to make the move permanent next summer for the 23-year-old.
Gardner-Hickman becomes Rovers’ tenth signing of the summer transfer window — eight permanent deals and two loans — and is reunited with former West Brom boss Valérien Ismaël.
He joins Ryoya Morishita, Andri Guðjohnsen, Sidnei Tavares, Axel Henriksson, Lewis Miller, Dion De Neve, Ryan Alebiosu, Sean McLoughlin, and Moussa Baradji as the new arrivals at Ewood Park.
Finally Find A New Home At Blackburn Rovers?
Gardner-Hickman has struggled to settle at a club since beginning his senior career in 2021.
The Stourbridge-born youngster joined West Bromwich Albion’s academy at Under-9 level, making his Baggies-supporting family very proud.
He climbed the ranks, making 25 Premier League 2 appearances at Under-18 level and reaching the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.
He went on to complete a scholarship at the West Midlands club, making his senior debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in 2021 as a left-winger. His first Championship start came later that year at right-back.
60 games for the Baggies later, Bristol City took note, with the fellow Championship side acquiring his services on an initial loan with an option to buy.
The Robins made the move permanent for the Englishman on a deal running until 2027, but he was soon deemed surplus to requirements and loaned back closer to home, joining Birmingham City.
The England Under-20 international thrived in his first campaign as the Blues secured promotion back to the Championship with a record-breaking points total, making 33 league appearances last season.
His move to St Andrew’s was made permanent earlier this summer, but he will now spend the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
