Bold League Two Predictions For The Rest Of The Season

It has been a somewhat unpredictable season in Sky Bet League Two, and if you were to ask me if anything I predicted for the campaign back in July has happened, I am not so sure I’d be able to say yes. Hopefully it’s a different story with my League Two Predictions For The Rest Of The Season.

The most noticeable shock is the dismal season of MK Dons, undoubtedly the bookies’ favourite for the league title in pre-season. The Dons find themselves 18th in the table after yet another formidable summer transfer window.

Or maybe the back-to-back relegations facing Carlisle United as they sit rock bottom and nine points adrift of safety with six to play.

But what do I think will happen before the final day on the 3rd of May? Here are my League Two Predictions For The Rest Of The Season.

Wals-fall…

Long-time league leaders Walsall have had a bleak past 3 months since being thumped away at Bradford City on the 25th of January.

Before that game, they had a 17-point lead over the Bantams; as of right now, that gap has been closed to just two points.

With teams such as Port Vale, Notts County and Doncaster Rovers also improving their form of late… So therefore, in the first of my League Two predictions, I can see The Saddlers finishing out of the top three.

They have been the worst side in terms of form over the last five games out of the division’s current top seven. They also rank 19th in that very same form table and even if they do manage to stay in the automatic promotion places, they are making very hard work of it.

David McGoaldrick…

Notts County’s David McGoldrick has been one of the best in League Two this campaign. he’s currently sat on 15 goals and with him being back to full fitness and his side seemingly picking up form, I think there’s a good chance he will win the League Two golden boot.

The current leader is Bromley’s Micheal Cheek with 19 goals, but his team has been in terrible going recently and they are bottom of the form table over the last five games.

Matty Stevens at AFC Wimbledon is McGoldrick’s other competitor for the feat and he is in a similar boat, with The Dons only winning one of their last five.

Stevens himself also appears to be struggling to find the net, he has only done so once in his last ten games and so McGoldrick has a very good chance of winning it.

Spireites to sneak in?

Seems like Paul Cook telling the press that their season was over might have given his side a kick up the backside after all. They are now just three points behind Grimsby in 7th place.

They have had crucial players return from injury and have won four out of their last five games with big wins away at Salford (0-4) and Notts County (1-2).

Grimsby, Colchester and Crewe have all been stop-start this season and it only needs one team to put a run together to sneak into that golden last play-off place.

It could just be Paul Cook’s side, in their first season back in the EFL, that manage to snatch it…

Sparky Sacked?

Mark Hughes took over Carlisle United back in February after Mike Williamson failed to improve the Blues.

They are rock bottom of the table; they only came down from League One last season and no one seems to be able to get a tune out of a massively under-performing squad.

They have the financial backing of Castle Sports Group, who have already backed two managers in transfer windows and then relieved them of their duties.

I can’t see them repeating their mistake. In the final of my League Two predictions, I think they will part company with ex-Bradford City man Mark Hughes if results don’t improve and the Blues fall into non-league.

Which looks highly likely…
