Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers are both looking to complete a transfer swoop on League One rivals Bolton Wanderers in the remainder of this month’s transfer window. Matt Bloomfield’s Oxford United have now joined the race as they bid to survive in the Championship for another season.

Earlier in the season, Bolton rejected bids in the region of £500,000 from Luton and Wycombe. Morley himself admitted he was happy to stay and that a move “never got close”.

Despite limited starts this season and heavy competition in Bolton’s midfield, Steven Schumacher has publicly played down speculation and insists he wants to keep the 25‑year‑old at the club.

Morley’s contract runs until 2027, and his market value. sits around £1 million. This makes him a significant asset for Bolton and a potentially expensive target for any suitor

Aaron Morley’s 2024-2026

Morley spent last season away from Bolton, at Wycombe Wanderers. That move was designed to give him regular football after slipping down the pecking order at Bolton, and it worked. Morley made 19 league appearances, scored 2 goals, and re‑established himself as a reliable, tempo‑setting midfielder. Wycombe used him as a deep‑lying passer, and the loan reminded a lot of clubs that Morley is at his best when he’s trusted to dictate play rather than rotate in and out of a squad.

That loan is also a big reason why he’s attracting interest now. Even though his current season at Bolton has been quieter, the Wycombe spell showed he can handle responsibility, play consistent minutes, and influence games from midfield.

His return to Wanderers this season has been bit‑part and disjointed. Across those 26 games, he has only started a fraction of them, played around 1,200 minutes. His single goal came in the EFL Trophy, not the league. In League One specifically, he has 0 goals in 18 appearances, and his minutes per appearance are low, often coming on late or being rotated heavily.

Fans Voices

Many Bolton fans feel Morley has had a frustrating season, arguing that his return of 1 goal in 26 games reflects usage rather than ability, and that he’s been stuck in a rotational role that doesn’t suit a rhythm‑based midfielder.

Oxford and Wycombe supporters, meanwhile, see an opportunity, believing he’s undervalued at Bolton and could thrive with consistent starts. Across the board, the tone on X is that Morley is a good player having an underwhelming year, which is exactly why so many clubs think he’s worth moving for now.
