Four Players Who Could Leave Bradford City In January 2026

Bradford City have endured success so far in League One this season but some players could be on their way out.

Graham Alexander’s side, Bradford City, have impressed so far this season, with them currently sitting 3rd on 28 points in League One.

However, as the January transfer window is approaching, the University of Bradford Stadium outfit will be looking at departures before adding incomings, as the squad is currently at a large size due to the high amount of signings the club made in the summer..

This article lists potential players who could depart Bradford City in the January transfer window.

Bradford City Potential Departures

George Lapslie

George Lapslie has only made four appearances in League One so far this campaign, with the midfielder also only assisting on one occasion in the league.

As well as this, last season, the midfielder, who joined the Bantams in January, only managed to make 13 appearances, scoring four times and contributing a single assist in League Two.

Meanwhile, Bradford City’s midfield combined so far this season in the league has scored 13 goals and contributed seven assists between them.

When taking this into account, the departure of George Lapslie, potentially to a League Two side.

Undertaking this move could benefit both parties as it would create room for incomings and increased game time for the former Gillingham man, who will want to be playing regularly.

Lewis Richards

Lewis Richards made 29 appearances in the Bantams’ automatic promotion to League One last season.

The 24-year-old was hunted by a number of clubs in the summer, with him being out of contract.

Following signing a new one-year contract in the summer and stepping up a league with the Bantams, the left wing back has not featured a single time in the league this season.

When looking at this, a move to a League Two side has the potential to be advantageous for the defender due to increased gametime.

Meanwhile, it can be advantageous for Alexander’s side as it would free up space for new incomings.

Nick Powell

Nick Powell, who only joined the Bantams in the summer from Stockport County, has only made four appearances in the league so far this season due to the midfielder picking up a long-term hamstring injury in October.

With Powell’s injury sustained career in mind, a departure by mutual consent may create room for a player who is less injury prone and who can have a bigger impact and help the Bantams improve and keep the form that the side has been displaying so far.

Bradley Halliday

Bradley Halliday, who made 52 appearances in the Bantams’ promotion-winning League Two run last season.

However, since Graham Alexander’s side made the step up to League One, the right-wing-back has struggled for game time.

Furthermore, the arrival of Josh Neufville has caused Halliday to be pushed out of starting eleven with the promotion winner limited to the bench.

As well as this, questions could arise about his ability to play in more than one position within the squad and his experience which makes a departure, even if on loan, arguably beneficial for both the defender and Bradford City.
