Bradford City Set To Sign Championship Defender

Bradford City are reportedly on the brink of competing a move for Portsmouth defender Tom McIntyre in a loan switch for the 2025/2026 season.

The 26-year-old has been subject of serious interest from League One outfits, but it seems as if The Chickens have won the race, via reports from The Mirror and Dan Marsh.

McIntyre hasn’t really had much of a chance to settle down and enjoy regular minutes the last season or so. A rough time being low down the pecking order at Portsmouth saw him move to Charlton, in a loan that saw him only appear 10 times.

How Have Bradford City Started The Season?

However, with newly-promoted Bradford enjoying a brilliant start to life thus far in League One, a move away from Pompey to a side with good ambition and a need for further defensive solidarity does seem a really good move on paper.

With Charlton on loan last campaign, McIntyre was able to enjoy a high percentage of duels won both on the ground and in the air, proving his qualities as a defensive player. Also, the 26-year-old was only dribbled past just the four times whilst with The Addicks.

Looking back on his past career, McIntyre does bring good experience in both the Championship and League One, having endured plenty of minutes with Reading at both levels before joining Portsmouth.

With Bradford already looking the part in League One, they’ll want to make sure they are fully prepared for the season heading past the 7pm deadline. Bringing in further defensive reinforcements certainly ticks a box, and it does also seem a good move.

With high experience and good qualities, McIntyre certainly could be a big player, even as a more rotational outlet for Bradford if they want to overstep the markers set out in pre-season and achieve something truly special in League One this season.

However, is the acquisition of McIntyre a good move or do Bradford need to look elsewhere as the clock ticks down on deadline day? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
