Bristol City finished 6th in the EFL Championship last season, losing to Sheffield United in the playoffs. Now, with a new season up and coming, City will be looking to improve and push on up the table in the upcoming campaign.
Ahead of their opening fixture against Sheffield United on the 9th of August, I sat down with Bristol City fan Colin Sutton (@007Sutts on X) to talk all things City in a Bristol City interview.
Before we start, I would like to thank Colin for taking part in this Bristol City Interview. His responses were informative and aim to give you an insight into Bristol City as a club currently.
The Bristol City Interview
City Finished 6th Last Season. But, How Would You Summarize The Season?
“A season of 2 halves up until Christmas, we’d underperformed and away form was non-existent. From Christmas, hard to know what changed, but more points than any other championship team. Away form still terrible. The playoffs were unexpected reality pre-season, so an overall over achievement on the season, despite the playoff result. Manning leaving for a rival Championship team after 1 full season is very disappointing.”
What Was Your Favourite Moment Of Last Season?
“Has to be the winner in the 96th minute, home to WBA when they were a real playoff rival. Preston home coming from 2-0 down to draw and make playoffs.”
What Would You Rate City’s Transfer Window Out Of Ten?
“Currently 6.5/10, we needed competition for Max in goal, we got it, but start the season, pray goes ok as Max is injured. Randall from Plymouth great signing. Emil Riis good signing and has 2 goals pre-season already. Think we still need another CF and wingback. If we hold onto Jason Knight, then it could be a 7.5/10.”
Who Has Been Bristol’s Best Signing Of The Summer So Far?
“Emil Riis”
What Area Of The Squad Needs Improving The Most And Why?
“Midfield is only area I’d say we’re as good, if not better, as it could be. As above.”
What Do You Think Of The Club Currently?
“We’re arguably the most stable, predictable, and underperforming team in the Championship. 11th consecutive championship awaits. Whilst a good base, there is frustration we’re not investing to kick on. Behind the scenes and off radar, owner Steven Lansdown hasn’t hidden the fact he’d sell the club to the right buyer, but also stated that there will be no big investment in the squad.”
Can Gerhard Struber deliver Success To Bristol City Next season?
“I think after over-achieving last season, disruption of Manning going, most City fans are just hoping for a positive season, good football, and challenging in the top half of the table, outside chance of playoffs Season.”
Are Bristol Prepared For Next Season?
“As said on signings and expectations, it’s been an average transfer window, for now. There was a clear need to bring in competition for Max in goal, and that’s been done — though with Max injured, we’re already feeling the strain. Emil Riis looks like a smart addition and has hit the ground running in pre-season with two goals.
“But Randall, in truth, seems like a really good signing. We still badly need another centre-forward and a wingback. And if we can somehow keep hold of Jason Knight, that might increase expectations for next season, but there’s still a lot of work to do.”
Who Is The Club’s Best Player Currently?
“Jason Knight by a mile. Played every minute of every game as captain last season, a real leader, influencer, and key player.”
Can You Give Me Your Prediction For How Bristol City Will Get On Next Season?
“Strubber has promised exciting football. I’ll take that and challenging in the top half of the table and in playoff hunt/contention.”
