Cambridge United were relegated to EFL League Two last season following a 22nd place finish in EFL League One. Now, the U’s will be looking to bounce back in the new season.
Before their opening fourth tier game against Cheltenham Town, I sat down with Luca from Cambridge United fan-page ‘NRE Report’ (@NREReport on X) to preview the new season and speak about all things Cambridge United.
Before we start, we would like to take a moment to thank Luca for taking part in this Cambridge United interview.
The Cambridge United Interview
Question 1: Relegation Isn’t Great. But, Can It Be Used To Improve The Club Even Further?
“Yes, relegation isn’t all bad. It gives us the chance to settle and focus on what type of players we need at the club.”
Question 2: What Do You Think About Cambridge United Currently?
“I think the board are doing a great job and we are slowly building a decent side together. I have full trust in Bonner as DOF and Harris as gaffer. The kits are also absolutely stunning which helps.”
Question 3: What Was Your Favorite Moment Of Last Season?
“Either James Brophy scoring from a corner or his winner against Woking in the cup.”
Question 4: Do You Think United Are Prepared For The 2025-26 Season, And Why?
“I don’t think we’re prepared for League Two. Six signings have been made so far but it is clear that we need more. With two of our bids rejected for a League Two level striker, it isn’t giving any U’s fans confidence with under two weeks until the season starts.”
Question 5: What Is Needed To Bring Success Back To The Club?
“To bring success back, we need patience from fans, a striker and a creative midfielder which we’ve lacked since (Wesley) Hoolahan apart from having Stokes on loan last season.”
Question 6: What Area Needs The Most Improvement In The Squad And Why?
“The attack needs a lot of improvement. I don’t think (Elias) Kachunga is good enough, (Shayne) Lavery is injury prone and won’t play every game and (Ryan) Loft isn’t able to find the back of the net.”
Question 7: What Are Your Thoughts On The Upcoming Season?
“Very nervous as we could find ourselves stuck for a while if luck isn’t on our side. However I’m also excited to see how we play with a full pre-season under (Neil) Harris.”
Question 8: Is Neil Harris The Right Manager For Cambridge United?
“Harris is without a shadow of a doubt the right man for us. The experience and pedigree that he holds at League Two is unmatched.”
Question 9: What Has Been Your Best Signing So Far This Summer?
“Ben Knight looks very very good. You can see glimpses of his quality in the friendlies.”
Question 10: Can You Give Me Your Prediction For How Cambridge United Will Do Next Season?
“I think we will finish between second and eighth depending on who else comes in and if we get a lot of injures like we did last season.
I believe we are three signings away from a promotion side and with Harris confirming for signings it could happen.”
