EXCLUSIVE: Huddersfield Town Target Cameron Antwi in Midfield Rebuild

The Lower Tiers understands that Huddersfield Town are starting to make moves towards their targets ahead of a critical summer rebuild and to help fill the void in the middle of the pitch, Huddersfield Town are interested in signing Newport County’s Cameron Antwi.

With his contract expiring in 2026, it would take a fee to see him join the West Yorkshire
outfit.

About Cameron Antwi

The 23-year-old is primarily a central midfielder but also fills in as a central defensive
midfielder when needed.

After playing youth football at Fulham, Antwi moved to Blackpool in 2019 before turning pro
in 2020.

After unsuccessful loan spells at Southport and AFC Telford, he was released by Blackpool
in 2022.

Cardiff City saw the potential and decided to pick him up on a free that same summer on a
two year deal.

Antwi’s time at Cardiff City was hampered by a serious knee injury but The Bluebirds still
offered him a new deal at the end of the 2023/24 season.

With first-team football at Cardiff unlikely to happen, Cameron Antwi opted to join Newport
County permanently in order to play and show what he’s about.

His Season So Far

Antwi started to appear regularly in the starting eleven after the departure of Bryn Morris and
injuries to Aaron Wildig, Kieron Evans and Kai Whitmore.

The ex-Fulham youth player had to seize this opportunity after frustrating Nelson Jardim, the
Newport County boss at the time.

It is understood that Antwi’s talent was never in doubt but he lacked the application of effort
in games and training.

“We are signing players from academies and under-21s football and [some people] expect
them to be ready. They are just not, even if the players maybe think that they are,” said
Jardim.

“People must be patient and build those players, with the player also seeing it is a good
platform to develop.

“Antwi is a prime example. He knows that I wasn’t always happy with his performances and
how he was training.

“But I will say publicly – fair play. Cameron has been brilliant and has changed the way that
he conducts himself every day.

“He is always on time, always ready to train at his best. You see a player that is improving
and that is not only a product of his change [of attitude] but the work that we all do at the
club.”
