Cardiff City have received a welcome boost on Yousef Salech after early scans eased fears over the injury he picked up during the recent match.

Salech left the pitch after a heavy landing from a collision with Stockport’s Brad Hills. The incident sparked real concern from City fans’, with the striker being stretchered off after a long 15 minute delay.

But Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy confirmed scans have ruled out any serious structural damage.

“He’s had very positive news on the initial scan,” Barry-Murphy said. “There are no fractures and no breaks, which is a big relief.”

While the forward is still experiencing discomfort, the club are taking a cautious approach, with further tests planned before setting any kind of return date.

“I don’t have a timescale,” Barry-Murphy added. “We’ll assess it day by day and determine the extent of what’s happened.”

Crucially, the injury won’t be expected to keep him out for long.

The manager also highlighted the flexibility within his squad, suggesting Salech’s absence — however brief — presents an opportunity for others to step up.

“Our first priority is to get Yousef back as soon as possible,” he said. “But there’s opportunity in everything. Other players will be ready.”

One such solution paid dividends on Tuesday night, with Omari Kellyman bagging a goal and an assist against Barnsley.

With 17 goal contributions in all competitions, the Bluebirds are keen to see the return of their top-scorer.

There is less positive news for Dylan Lawlor, however, as he faces a short spell on the sidelines.

“Dylan’s damaged his medial ligament,” Barry-Murphy confirmed. “The scan suggests it’ll be between two and three weeks before he plays again.”

While Lawlor’s absence may test Cardiff’s defensive depth, the update on Salech offers a timely lift as Barry-Murphy manages a busy period, with the club looking to secure their return to the Championship.
