Cardiff City have joined a number of Football League clubs in triggering the release clause of highly rated Flint Town United defender Isaac Lee.
The 21-year-old South Korean centre-back has attracted interest from League One side Cardiff, as well as League Two clubs Crawley Town and Walsall, following a standout season in the Cymru Premier.
According to Football League World, all three clubs have activated Lee’s release clause, with Cardiff keen to make Issac Lee their first signing of the summer.
Who Is Issac Lee?
Lee impressed over the 2024–25 campaign, making 29 appearances for Flint Town United and helping them secure a ninth-place finish in the Welsh top-flight. His performances earned him both the club’s Young Player of the Year and Fans’ Player of the Year awards.
The ball-playing defender began his career at Championship side Stoke City before moving through several non-league clubs in England. His switch to Welsh domestic football has since reignited interest from higher-tier sides.
A New Cardiff
Cardiff, now under the guidance of newly appointed manager Brian Barry-Murphy, are focused on adding quality to the squad.
Barry-Murphy, known for his development of young talent during his time at Rochdale and Manchester City’s academy setup, has made it clear that any new signings must fit a specific profile.
We are very excited by what we have in the building, but we all want to be ambitious to move the club forward in every department,” Barry-Murphy told Wales Online:
“Adding quality, rather than quantity, is a big part of that. Zoning in on specific players with the profiles we believe can bring the way we want to play to life.”
Off the pitch, Cardiff City are also facing growing uncertainty, with rumours circulating around a potential ownership change. Current owner Vincent Tan is reportedly considering offers from prospective buyers.
Despite the turbulence, the Bluebirds remain determined to strengthen ahead of the new season with them set to kick off their League One campaign at home to Peterborough United on the 2nd of August.
