Lower Tiers Best 5: Championship Gameweek Six Predictions

The Championship returns this weekend with Middlesbrough looking to maintain their status at the summit of the table.

Last week, in the EFL Championship, goals, drama, and chaos throughout the league saw Middlesbrough finish the weekend on top of the table.

Now, with a new game-week upon us, five of our writers have picked some of the best games in the Championship to predict.

Let’s see what they predicted.

Championship Gameweek Six Predictions

Amar’s Prediction

Well, the season hasn’t quite gone to plan for Sheffield United so far has it? The club’s own failures has brought Chris Wilder back to the club this week with the aim of finally getting their season up and running.

Charlton, meanwhile, have played relatively well but have had problems putting the ball in the back of the net.

Charlton will be hoping that Wilder hasn’t yet got his side firing again and that they can capitalise on what has been a very leaky defence. However, it seems very likely to me that normal order will be restored this weekend and the Blades will start their rise up the table. Tyreece Campbell to score a brace.

Amar’s Prediction: Sheffield United 3-1 Charlton Athletic

Dylan’s Prediction

This weekend’s Friday night game sees two of the most in-form sides in the Championship go head to head at the Riverside Stadium as Middlesbrough welcome West Brom.

Boro come into the match unbeaten in the league so far this season, as they sit top of the table having won four games and have drawn the other.

The Baggies come into this match having lost their previous match 1-0 at home against Derby County, and currently sit fifth in the table on ten points, having won three games, while drawing one and losing the other as previously mentioned.

Middlesbrough have had the better of West Brom in recent times, winning the last three games between the two sides without conceding.

I think the trend will continue tonight, and I’m going for a Boro win.

Dylan’s prediction: Middlesbrough 2-0 West Brom

Hannah’s Prediction

Birmingham City head into this fixture with a point to prove, having struggled to convert possession into goals in recent outings.

Their home form has been patchy, but the energy at St Andrew’s could give them a crucial edge against a Swansea side still searching for rhythm under new management.

Expect Birmingham to lean on their physical midfield and direct wide play to unsettle Swansea’s more patient build-up. While the visitors have shown flashes of attacking promise, defensive lapses, especially late in games, remain a concern.

This feels like a tight contest, but Birmingham’s urgency and home support might tip the balance

Hannah’s Prediction: Birmingham City 2-1 Swansea City

Jenson’s Prediction

Football returns again this weekend, and two teams with reasonably solid form so far meet in Lancashire, as Blackburn welcome Ipswich Town up north.

The Rovers will be looking to build on a narrow away win against Watford last weekend, and the visiting Tractor Boys will want more of the same following their 5-0 thumping of Sheffield Utd last time out.

Both teams offer quality and Blackburn certainly are a challenging side defensively, which is why I see this being a game with a few goals between the sides, however, with confidence ahead of the net now, Ipswich should win this one.

Jenson’s Prediction, Blackburn Rovers 1-3 Ipswich Town

Lawson’s Prediction

QPR host Stoke City in a lunchtime kick-off at MATRADE Loftus Road on Saturday.

The hosts have banished the blues of the embarrassing 7-1 defeat to Coventry by winning back-to-back games against newly promoted sides Charlton and Wrexham.

Meanwhile, Stoke bounced back from their first defeat of the season at the hands of West Brom to record their fourth win of the season over Birmingham last weekend.

Star summer signing Richard Kone has been in fine form for Rangers, having scored three in his last three appearances, but he will face a tough battle against towering centre-back Bosun Lawal, who scored the winner against the Blues.

Lawson’s Prediction: QPR 1-1 Stoke City
