Championship Goalkeeper’s Nightmare Set To Continue

Seny Dieng’s move away from Championship club Middlesbrough is reportedly off as the deadline has passed at 7pm

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough’s Seny Dieng has reportedly had a move away from the club collapse. It was believed that the Senegalese shot stopper would be on his way to Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

Especially after Boro brought Joseph Wildmsith in on loan from West Bromwich Albion. But now it looks like Dieng will be staying at the Riverside.

For now at least.

A Torrid Time

Dieng has really struggled for minutes over recent years.

Injuries have meant that the 31-year-old hasn’t started a first team match since December 2024. He joined Middlesbrough in 2023 and was their first choice for a season and a half before being injured.

Prior to that he was QPR’s number one for three consecutive campaigns.

An Uphill Struggle

Even if Dieng was fit, it would be difficult to see him getting back into the starting XI anytime soon. Solomon Brynn is now Middlesborough’s undisputed number one.

His performances have helped Boro up to 2nd place in the Championship table, now level on points with leaders Coventry City who for a long time seemed to be cruising to the title. In addition, Middlesborough have conceded the second fewest goals in the division (29).

Only Ipswich have conceded fewer.

Here We Go Again

This isn’t the first time this transfer window that we thought that Dieng would be leaving Middlesborough. It was rumoured that negotiations with Dieng regarding a contract termination were taking place, allowing him to make a move to Hull City.

However, nothing ever came of this, and the goalkeeper finds himself in limbo once again. He will be hoping that a club is willing to sign him at the very last minute.

Dieng has played 168 Championship games, keeping 35 clean sheets so there is definitely a solid goalkeeper in there. But given his unfortunate time with injuries over recent years, I’m not sure if he will get a move away.
