Barnsley are expected to confirm the move for the winger as a part of their January transfer window business.

Barnsley

Barnsley are one of the teams aiming to succeed in League One this season.

But, the Tykes, managed by Conor Hourihane, have experienced some difficulties so far this campaign which saw them drop down to 17th in the league table currently.

However, the side have had their standout moments in the season so far such as their 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town at home last year.

Now, with the outfit sitting the bottom half of the League One table, Barnsley are set to sign a winger from Middlesbrough.

According to Pete O’Rourke, reporting on his X account, the Tykes have agreed a deal to sign Boro winger Charlie Lennon in a permanent move.

But, it remains unseen whether this move will be for the first-team or the Under-21s side.

Lennon has been with Middlesbrough since the age of nine and was born in Spennymoor.

Furthermore, he is described as a highly-talented ball carrier and has had a loan spell at Darlington during this season.

In this loan, the winger has made 21 appearances, scoring twice, as Darlington have strived to a seventh placed position currently.

Alongside his loan spell at the National League North club, Charlie Lennon has featured for England’s Under-15, 16, and 17s and has featured for Middlesbrough’s Under-18s and Under-21s over the course of the last few seasons.

Meanwhile, he has also played for Boro’s first team once against Cardiff City in the 2023-24 season.

With the move looking likely, fans may look towards Conor Hourihane to see if he comments on Lennon’s abilities and if he can provide an update on where the winger will primarily be based.

Furthermore, supporters may choose to look at what this move could mean for the rest of the team this month and in future transfer windows such as the one in the summer.
