Colchester United’s Eventful Weekend Explained

Colchester United moved upto 14th at the weekend, with a 2-0 victory over top of the table Walsall.

The U’s gained the win thanks to goals from Kyreece Lisbie and Samson Tovide.

The weekend went far from smoothly though as Danny Cowley’s men picked up an injury to key man Teddy Bishop.

The midfielder was replaced by Rob Hunt in the 78th minute, following a dead leg injury.

Taxi For Colchester United’s Players Instead Of The Manager?

As already mentioned, the win came at a cost for Colchester with Teddy Bishop suffering a dead leg during the match, but in reality the drama started long before that.

I’ve heard of a taxi for the manager but in this instance it was the players scrambling for a cab! The U’s team bus suffered a flat tyre on Friday with a further flat tyre coming on Saturday too!

This win will have been a sweet one with all the suffering in the build up and with Bishop’s injury.

Hurricane?

Danny Cowley joked the elements were against his team, with the weather at the back end of last week also hindering their travel plans to the Bescot Stadium. The former Lincoln man joked it was like travelling in a hurricane.

They do say bad things come in 3’s so Cowley and his Colchester players will hope that the Tyres, Storm Claudia and Ted’s injury will be their 3.

Is Next Weekend Any Easier?

Next weekend the U’s face a trip to 4th placed Notts County but Cowley’s men will have their tails up following the win at the weekend, plus the 2-0 victory against Fulham u21’s in the EFL Trophy.

County will prove a stern test and will want to improve on their 1-1 draw with Harrogate Town though, a match where the Sulphurites could only name 3 substitutes due to injuries, suspensions and international call-ups.

Cowley and his men will hope that this weekend’s visit to Nottingham is a lot less eventful than the trip to Walsall!
