Colchester United are expected to confirm the signing as they look to strengthen in the closing stages of the window.
Reported by Pete O’Rourke, Colchester United are set to sign Wycombe Wanderers full-back Fin Back on a season-long loan deal.
Colchester United are expected to make their second signing of the transfer window imminently, following the loan signing of central-midfielder Finley Barbrook from Ipswich Town this morning.
With Back linking up with the U’s, Colchester now take their loan tally up to the maximum limit of five, with Micah Mbick, Harvey Araujo, Will Goodwin and Finley Barbrook.
With Ellis Iandolo reportedly out until the end of Febraury with a knee injury, Fin Back provides the necessary cover at full-back, allowing Frankie Terry to return to his natural position of centre-back.
Back featured against Colchester United earlier this campaign, playing the full 90 minutes in the EFL Trophy for Wycombe Wanderers, which the U’s ultimately won 2-1.
Making just eleven appearances for The Chairboy’s this season, Fin Back’s loan move to Colchester allows both sides to benefit from the deal, optimising Back’s game-time, as well as giving the U’s a rotation option at the back.
Prior to his time in Buckinghamshire, he graduated through Nottingham Forest’s academy, featuring five times for Forest in their promotion winning campaign back in 2021/22.
Two successive loan spells at Carlisle United followed, including gaining yet another promotion under his belt, as Carlisle United returned to League One in 2022/23.
Across his two loan spells, Back featured a total of 41 times for Carlisle United, before making the permanent switch to Wycombe Wanderers last January.
Only featuring two times last campaign, alongside eleven this campaign, Back’s batted through both injury issues and falling out of favour with managers and now hopes to feature regularly in first team matches once again through dropping back into League Two.
Cowley openly stated in a recent interview that he aims to bring in a full-back and a central defensive midfielder before the Deadline Day door slams shut, and he’s added both of those sufficiently!
