Next Season’s Championship Big Boys Target Ligue 1 Boss

Liam Rosenior could be on his way back to English football this summer.

According to reports in the French media, Leicester City are considering Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior as a candidate to replace Ruud Van Nistelrooy who is under serious pressure.

Southampton are also reportedly interested in Rosenior, should they part company with Ivan Juric.

Leicester are 19th in the Premier League, nine points from safety, and are facing relegation to the Championship for the second time in three seasons.

Despite the speculation, there is no suggestion that the Foxes plan to sack Van Nistelrooy, and the Dutchman himself has no plans to leave, with his current contract running until June 2027, so if they were to part ways it would not come cheaply for the Foxes.

Van Nistelrooy, who was appointed head coach of Leicester in November last year, has won just three of his eighteen matches in charge. Despite impressive wins against West Ham and Tottenham, the Foxes have lost their last six games, conceding sixteen goals in that time. By contrast, Liam Rosenior has had a strong season with Strasbourg. La Racing sit fifth in Ligue Un, just a point off third place and a possible Champions League spot, and have won five of their last six games, drawing only one.

Liam Rosenior replaced Patrick Vieira at Strasbourg in July 2024, but has previous experience in the Championship where he was highly successful and was controversially let go. He became caretaker manager of Derby County in June 2022, but was replaced by Paul Warne in September of that year. In November 2022, he became head coach of the Tigers, but was sacked in May 2024 after the club narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs.

Could the Londoner be on his way to Leicester, Southampton or potentially even a surprise club in time for next season or will he remain in France?
