Coventry City Officially Sign Surinamese International

Coventry City have confirmed the signing with him bringing many things to the Sky Blues in their pursuit of promotion.

Coventry City

Coventry City have completed the signing of Jahnoah Markelo on a 4-and-a-half-year deal from FC Zurich.

The left footed right winger notched 2 goals and 3 assists in 14 games in which he started 11.

Sky Blues fans may be perplexed to see another winger through the door instead of the preferred centre mid or defensive option, but a young signing on a long-term deal is no signing to turn your nose up at.

Who is Jahnoah Markelo?

Markelo is a Suriname international who started his career in the Netherlands with FC Twente.

He spent his second season at Go Ahead Eagles where he would only make eight appearances, then he went on to get his move to Switzerland in 2024 after spending a season in Croatia with NK KustoĊija.

His first season with Zurich would see him notch four goals and five assists in 28 appearances. This would see him rewarded with a contract until 2030 in June of 2025.

His Role At Coventry City

Markelo may see gametime limited at the Sky Blues, becoming a 3rd option on the right wing to fellow January signing Romain Esse and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

Despite being also able to play off the left wing, he would also face two competitors there with Min-Hyeok Yang and Ephron Mason-Clark, which makes it a bit of a perplexing signing.

On signing for Coventry, Markelo stated: “My ambitions are to get as much playing time as I can and help the team win games”

The Statistics And Analysis

Markelo has eight senior goals to go alongside his eight senior assists across his five seasons of professional football.

His production in front of goal has naturally increased year on year bar his last year where he has played 13 games less than the season before. However he is only three goals contributions off his previous season’s tally.

With him being a left footed right winger, it will come as no shock that the majority of his goals have came from his ability to cut in and finish on his favoured foot.
