Interest in Cardiff City prospect Tanatswa Nyakuhwa is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window, with Crawley Town and Cheltenham Town now joining an expanding list of clubs keen on securing the 20-year-old on loan, sources have told us.
The Bluebirds attacker has become one of the most in-demand young players in the EFL, with Newport County, Kilmarnock, Crawley and Cheltenham all actively exploring a temporary deal. Cardiff are understood to be weighing up the best developmental pathway for Nyakuhwa, having previously resisted multiple approaches during the summer window.
Also exclusively to The Lower Tiers, Newport County have held further discussions with Cardiff City earlier today in an attempt to strengthen their pitch to both the parent club and the player. The Exiles remain locked in a battle near the foot of League Two and believe Nyakuhwa’s pace, creativity and attacking versatility could play a key role in helping them pull clear of danger during the second half of the campaign.
Crawley Town and Cheltenham Town have now entered the picture, both viewing Tanatswa Nyakuhwa as a high-upside addition capable of adding unpredictability in the final third. Cheltenham’s interest is particularly notable given Nyakuhwa’s previous involvement against them earlier in the season, when he impressed Cardiff staff with a mature and disciplined performance outside his usual attacking role.
Kilmarnock, meanwhile, remain long-term admirers after seeing a summer move blocked, while Cardiff’s initial reluctance to sanction a loan stemmed from Nyakuhwa’s rapid progression and growing involvement around the first-team squad. Coaches have been impressed not only by his technical ability but also by his adaptability, composure in possession and willingness to take on responsibility.
With senior figures at Cardiff, including Chris Willock, publicly backing the youngster to enjoy a bright future, the club now face a balancing act between retaining depth and ensuring Nyakuhwa receives regular minutes at senior level.
As January approaches, Cardiff must decide whether a loan spell — and at which club — best serves one of their most exciting academy graduates, with competition for his signature now firmly heating up.
