Ex Ipswich Town Striker Takes First Managerial Step at Cray Valley

Ex‑Ipswich Town striker takes charge at Cray Valley , as the club sits one point above the Isthmian Premier relegation zone.

Ipswich Town

Former Ipswich Town striker Kevin Lisbie has taken his first step into management after being named the new boss of Cray Valley.

The 47‑year‑old returns to a club where he previously scored 60 goals and helped deliver one of the most successful periods in their history.

A Familiar Face Returns

Lisbie replaces Steve McKimm, who departed last week, and steps back into the Artic Stadium with deep roots already in place.

His earlier spell brought 60 goals in 80 games, an SCEFL Premier Division title and an FA Vase final at Wembley, a run that still shapes the club’s identity today.

Where Cray Valley Stand

The Millers are currently hovering just one point above the Isthmian Premier relegation zone, with form tightening across the bottom end of the table.

Lisbie arrives at a crucial moment, tasked with steadying a side that has struggled to find consistency in recent weeks.

Immediate Impact

Lisbie moved straight into the dugout, overseeing a spirited 2–2 draw away at Canvey Island after trailing by two goals.

The comeback offered early signs of resilience, but the new manager’s focus will be on tightening performances and lifting the club clear of danger in the weeks ahead.

Lisbie’s Reaction

Speaking on social media, Lisbie called the role “a massive honour” and said he is “proud, grateful, and ready to give everything” to help move the club forward.

His return comes after several years building his coaching craft, including work at Leyton Orient, where he coached in the academy and led the U10S programme.

He also ran the “Lisbie Finishing School” for young players and coached across local schools, developing a reputation for detailed, hands‑on youth work.

During his previous spell at Cray Valley between 2017 and 2021, he was already heavily involved on the coaching side, often prioritising sessions and development work even while still playing.

Football In The Family

Lisbie, who scored seven goals in 45 games for Ipswich Town, has seen all three of his sons come through Cray Valley’s pathway.

Kyrell now plays for Peterborough United, while twins Kyreece and Kaion are both at Colchester United, continuing the family’s strong footballing ties.
