The news broke just days ago that David Brooks would not be joining West Brom, despite completing a medical and being at the final stages of a deal. It is believed another prospect away from The Hawthorns had swayed his attention, leading to the collapse.
With that news comes plenty of speculation now as to where the Welsh Winger could be looking at going this summer. We’ve picked out three clubs in the Championship that could be suitable fits…
Bristol City
With the departure of long-term legend Anis Mehmeti confirmed this summer, The Robins are look for a positive and goal-scoring replacement. Brooks could certainly fit that billing…
With a fantastic record in recent years ahead of goal, and a similar sort of versatility to Mehmeti, Brooks would bring youth, pace and power to Ashton Gate. With a high percentage of success in crossing scenarios (through FotMob statistics) and an all-round strong record in front of goal, a move to Bristol City would be perfect for both parties.
Not only would signing for The Robins provide the Welshman with a good opportunity, it would bring him closer to his home ground of Wales, and there is also the strong possibility that Gerhard Gruber’s side are in and around the promotion mix next season, which could offer a Premier League chance to Brooks with Bristol City.
Sheffield United
With serious concerns that Gus Hamer and other strong attackers could well be off out of Bramall Lane this summer, it could mean that Ruben Selles needs a new recruit or two with some strong attributes, which is where Brooks comes in.
Now while the Welshman isn’t a massive outlyer with passing success, he is certainly capable of doing so and the system that Selles is likely to set his Blades up in next season will be possession-based, potentially allowing Brooks to unleash himself.
With energy, skill, speed and attacking know-how, Brooks would bring The Blades some real quality as they look to get back up into the Premier League next season. The experience of Premier League football and also impressive records mean that Sheff Utd should really be exploring their options around Brooks…
Millwall
The Lions have lost big numbers across their attacking front-line, with Zian Flemming, George Honeyman and Ducan Watmore all departing The Den already. It is clear that in and around the attacking options, Millwall need some strengthening to push for a Premiership return.
Brooks offers versatility, not only being able to operate out on the wing, but the Welshman can also certainly operate in the vacancies left through the middle. His attributes and also records prove that, with a strong number of goals meaning that a switch to Millwall could be a positive one.
Although the football isn’t guaranteed to be attractive, the goal-scoring ability and also simplicity that Brooks could bring to the table for Millwall could be of big significance. It’s a pretty obscure place for the Bournemouth man to go, but it could soon become a strong and valid option if the chance is right.
Other Options For David Brooks
Across the Championship there are going to be many clubs looking for wingers and attacking playmakers this window. Blackburn will be in the market, Ipswich could come knocking and there’s good chance Leicester may also be in a similar area.
However, where do you think Brooks should go? Let us know in the comments below.
