David McGoldrick Rumoured to Be Target for MK Dons Amid Contract Dispute

On X (previously Twitter), rumours of talisman, David McGoldrick turning down a new contract off are circling.

It’s being suggested that County have offered less than he’s currently and rumoured interest from MK Dons is tempting him away from the club.

At 37-years-old, offering reduced terms would normally be the best way to approach the situation as the player won’t be far off retiring.

However, this is a different situation. David McGoldrick is vital to Notts County. He’s their best player and they can’t afford to lose him.

He’s also arguably the best player in League Two and his form last season showed that he’s certainly got another year in him.

The former Sheffield United man is the marquee type of player that every club needs to gain promotion. The player that can grab the game by the scruff of its neck and add that little bit of extra quality to win the game. Last season, Doncaster had Luke Molyneux, Port Vale had Lorent Tolaj and Bradford had Antoni Sarcevic as their marquee players and without them, I doubt we’d see these clubs promoted.

David McGoldrick to MK Dons

David McGoldrick to MK Dons is just a rumour but this would be a fantastic addition to their already strong League Two squad. ‘Didzy’ would join already signed Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and with Paul Warne in charge, they have to be the early favourites for the title.

MK clearly have money to spend and taking your promotions rivals’ best players is always a smart move. They can spend more than Notts County. For a player coming to the end of their career, he would be stupid not to do it.

The Magpies must be getting sick of MK Dons and their financial muscle. Last January, star-man Danny Crowley jumped ship to join a struggling MK side and while this might have been amusing to Notts fans as they finished further up the table, the long term vision of the club turned his head. Some people won’t like this, but MK Dons are going places.
