Doncaster Rovers beat Huddersfield Town to ease their relegation fears thanks to Luke Molyneux’s first-half penalty.

Doncaster Rovers earned an important win at Eco Power Stadium as they beat Yorkshire Rivals Huddersfield Town.
Luke Molyneux‘s penalty in the first half was enough for Donny to walk away with maximum points and a 1-0 win to move up to 18th in the table, whilst the Terriers were left looking nervously over their shoulder at teams around the play-off spots.
The away side were looking to exact revenge on the hosts, after they were knocked out of the Vertu Trophy.
Doncaster were victorious visitors last Tuesday on penalties, thanks to three penalty saves by Thimothee Lo-Tutala.
In a game which lacked much real quality, the Terriers controlled the tempo early doors, with Marcus Harness firing an effort wide of the far post after cutting inside from the left.
Despite some early pressure, it was Doncaster who had the chance to break the deadlock, when Bali Mumba was penalised for a handball after a header back across goal by Molyneux.
The winger then dispatched the penalty to give Doncaster a needed lead going into half time, sending keeper Lee Nicholls the wrong way.
Mumba had a chance to amend his error a minute into the second period, but he couldn’t connect with Lyndon Gooch’s low ball across goal.
Huddersfield continued to be on top in the second half, but couldn’t muster much of a chance, and would finish the game without an attempt on target.
Owen Bailey had a chance to double the Donny lead, but his shot was grasped by Town keeper Nicholls late on, but Rovers held out for the win.
The result sees Huddersfield lose ground on play-off rivals, and remain in sixth place but after wins for Reading and Stevenage, the Terriers sit in the top six on goal difference only
The Terriers turn their attention to another South Yorkshire side on Saturday, as they host Barnsley at the Accu Stadium.
As for Doncaster Rovers, they also play another South Yorkshire side, Rotherham United, at 12:30 on Saturday, looking to pile more misery on the marooned Millers and push themselves away from trouble.
