Rotherham United are closing in on the signing of former MLS midfielder, Dru Yearwood.
Yearwood has been in US since 2020 but has been without a club since January of this year. The Millers are said to have beaten off fellow League One sides in order to bring the 25-year-old back to England.
Rotherham United’s Aims – 2025/26
Under local lad Matt Hamshaw, Rotherham are hoping to build a squad that can push the side up the table after a lacklustre 2024-25 season.
After Steve Evans was sacked at the end of March, Hamshaw helped guide the side away from the relegation zone and to 13th place finish. This though, was far below the predicted promotion push.
After signing Kian Spence from Barrow and goalkeeper Ted Cann, the team expects to add Yearwood as their third signing of the window.
The 25-year-old central midfielder began his career in Arsenal’s youth academy before moving to Southend United after he was released by the Gunners.
After 61 appearances for the Shrimpers, he left to return to London with then Championship side Brentford.
Unfortunately, things wouldn’t work out with the Bees, as Dru Yearwood would make the trip across the pond after just two league appearances. After three years with the New York Red Bulls and one with Nashville SC, the player is set to return to the EFL.
Hamshaw and Rotherham are in the market for a deep midfielder as the new boss restructures his team in order to make a playoff push, Yearwood could be a new linchpin in this side.
With 115 MLS appearances under his belt at 25, Yearwood represents a good pick up for the Millers, despite not playing in 2025. It is unknown why the midfielder could not pick up another side in the USA, but a return home might be the best scenario for all parties.
