As per Anthony Joseph, Watford have agreed a deal to sign 24-year-old Pierre Ekwah from Saint -Etienne.

The Frenchman’s primary position is centre midfield and is likely to partner Louza in the midfield two.

Ekwah is strong in aerial duels, winning 71% of them last season and is a good recoverer of the ball with 157 recoveries made; however loses many duels on the ground with a 57% win rate.

The midfielder hasn’t featured so far this season for Saint-Etienne; however played 29 games last season, scoring 1 goal and averaging a 7.1 match rating.

The 24-year-old has Championship experience with Sunderland, where he made 42 appearances, scoring 5 goals and assisting 2 with an average match rating of 6.9.

Meanwhile, he also came through the Sunderland academy, demonstrating his experience in English football. This could aid him when trying to fit in at Watford in the closing stages of the season.

A smart signing for Watford, given injuries, outgoings and Ekwah is set to join the Hornets alongside Saba Golichidze before the window slams shut.
