Peterborough United have a few out of contract stars who could leave this summer

Peterborough United will be looking to overhaul their squad this summer, after a rollercoaster campaign.
They have a bloated squad, despite a few departures during the January transfer window.
Here, The Lower Tiers looks at four out-of-contract players, where they could go, and who the club could try to keep.
Archie Collins arrived at Peterborough United in 2023 from Exeter City and quickly won over the Posh faithful with his creativity and tough tackling.
The 26-year-old midfielder has made over 140 appearances for the club so far. He was part of the squad that won back-to-back Vertu trophies in 2024 and 2025, alongside breakout stars Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows.
Collins turned down a new contract last year, and manager Luke Williams confirmed at a recent fans forum that the club expect Collins to leave this summer.
A move to fellow League One club Bolton Wanderers has been suggested, but it seems more likely that Collins will move to a Championship side.
Swansea were reportedly interested when Luke Williams was in charge, so will they come back in for him?
Everybody associated with the club would love Collins to stay, but he clearly feels that he has done his time there. The fact that he turned down a lucrative new contract proves that. At 26, he is reaching his prime, and wants to play at a higher level – something that Posh can’t guarantee.
Expect him to move on in the summer.
Peter Kioso is in his second stint at Peterborough United, on loan from Oxford United. His first loan spell was from Rotherham United during the 2023-24 season.
He captained the club, but his loan was cut short by the Millers in January 2024. The hard-working defender proved so popular that chairman Darragh MacAnthony moved quickly to bring him back to the club last summer when he learned of Kioso’s availability.
Although his natural position is right-back, he can also play as a wing-back or centre-back
Kioso has made 21 appearances for Posh this season, with one goal and two assists.
The 26-year-old’s future is up in the air. Both his loan at Posh and his Oxford contract expire in May, so he will be a free agent in the summer, unless Posh offer him a permanent deal.
A new deal at Oxford looks unlikely, as he barely featured for them before his loan.
Hard to tell at this point. If he does stay, then he’ll provide much-needed experience to a young Posh backline.
His versatility means that there will no doubt be plenty of demand from other League One clubs. It all depends on Luke Williams’ transfer plans, and the club’s budget.
Jacob Mendy joined Peterborough United on loan from Wrexham in September 2025, with a deal to run through until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old defender was brought in to add depth to Posh’s backline, but his season has been disrupted by injuries.
The latest is a muscle injury, but he is expected to be available again soon.
He has only made six starts, and he has been substituted in all of them.
Recently, he converted his loan deal into a permanent one, which runs until the end of the season. This was part of an agreement with Wrexham, which involved the Red Dragons cancelling the injured Tom O’Connor’s loan at Posh.
There are no reports of any other clubs enquiring about Mendy, but that could change if he regains form and fitness over the last part of the season.
It depends on how well he performs. He has bags of experience, and was a vital part of the Wrexham squad that achieved back-to-back promotions, so he will be a great asset if he can stay fit.
If he can’t, Posh might cut their losses.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan signed on loan from Chelsea on deadline day last September, and he quickly became one of the club’s most popular players.
He scored his first goal in the 3-2 defeat to Huddersfield Town. His link-up play with strike partner Harry Leonard has also caught the eye.
He has been one of the regulars in the Posh side during their injury-hit campaign, playing 28 matches and scoring nine times, despite playing in a deeper role than he is used to.
The 20-year-old’s deal runs out in June.
He will go back to Chelsea, and then it will probably be another loan move. Before Posh, he had a loan spell at Gillingham in League Two, so could his next stop be the Championship?
Luke Williams has said that he would love Morgan to return to the Weston Homes Stadium next season.
He said (via Peterborough Telegraph): ‘I am certainly not going to go toe-to-toe with Chelsea over Jimmy.
‘It’s up to them what they plan for him, but hopefully he will hold our club dearly at the end of the season and some more of his career will be with us.’
If it was to happen it would likely be another loan, but Posh have a great reputation for developing young players, so that could work in their favour.
