Four Reasons Why Watford Can Challenge For The Play-Offs

Here we take a look at four reasons Watford could enter the Championship playoff race, as they look to gather form.

Watford

Watford currently sit in 8th position in the Sky Bet Championship, just one point behind Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham in the final play-off spot.

Javi Gracia has turned his side around with only 2 losses in their last sixteen in the Championship. There’s every reason to believe that this Watford side could make the play-offs.

Attacking Talent

Javi Gracia’s side have plenty of attacking talent, especially on the wing, with players like Othmane Maamaa with 3 goals and 1 assist tracking interest from some of the world’s best.

Kwadwo Baah, who hasn’t flourished as much this season due to injury, alongside Nestroy Irankunda, who also has looked bright when starting and coming off the bench. There are plenty of options for Watford in the attack that can hurt any championship defences on their day.

Watford Home Form

Although it has dropped off a little of late, Javi Gracia’s team have made Vicarage Road a fortress with only 2 defeats to Blackburn in September and, most recently, Millwall on Graham Taylor Matchday.

Upcoming home fixtures against Swansea, Derby and Ipswich could become crucial to their play-off push.

Edoardo Bove

Bove is a statement signing for Watford; it’s also a risk, having not played for a whole year after collapsing on the pitch in Serie A. However, he has played in Serie A and the Conference League.

Watford fought off Premier League interest for the defensive midfielder and could be the boost Watford need alongside Louza to push for promotion.

Watford Squad Size

Javi Gracia’s side has plenty of options around the pitch, as shown by a back 3 earlier in the season and bringing on plenty of attacking talent throughout this season.

Despite few options in defence at the minute due to injury, allowing a rest for Key players in attack, such as Maamaa, doesn’t reduce the quality in the attack with the likes of Irankunda and Baah.

The size of the squad allows Watford to rotate more easily, especially with the tight schedule coming up.

Watford are definitely up there for serious promotion and play-off contention. A few more signings and key players are back from injury, such as Pollock; they will definitely begin to build again.
