Four Things Devante Cole Could Bring To Luton Town

Luton Town have been linked with the signing of Devante Cole, causing discussion within the Hatters fanbase.

Luton Town

Luton Town are looking to add to their attacking options by making a late move for Port Vale star Devante Cole, according to Sky Sports.

The 30 year old striker has scored an impressive eight goals this season in all competitions whilst also notching four assists for the side sitting bottom of the League One table.

Luton aren’t set to be the only club interested in the Jamaican forward, with Football League World reporting that Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town and Bradford City also being interested.

This would be a smart move from the Hatters, as strikers Jerry Yates and Nahki Wells have failed to impress so far this season, only scoring four league goals between them.

Therefore, we looked at what Devante Cole can bring to Luton, and how he will help the Hatters in their push for promotion this season.

1. Devante Cole Brings Proven Goals At This Level

Devante Cole has played most of his career at a League One level, whilst this may not be attractive for some fans, it shows that he is capable of scoring reliably at this level, having 71 goals in 268 games.

A reliable source of goals up front is something that Luton have been lacking for most of the season so far, with top scorers Jordan Clark and Gideon Kodua both playing primarily behind the striker.

With Ali Al Hamadi and Elijah Adebayo both sidelined with injury currently, a move for a striker of Cole’s profile will be a welcome addition to Jack Wilshere’s side.

2. He Is Available Regularly

Luton have struggled heavily with injuries to their attack this season, with Jacob Brown, Al-Hamadi and Adebayo all missing most of the season with injury so far.

Devante Cole is a welcome change to this theme, starting every single league match he has been available for so far this season. He even captained Port Vale against Exeter in their last match.

He also is a different mould of forward to Wells and Yates, giving diverse options across a struggling front line this season.

3. A Strong Aerial Presence Up Front

This season Luton have massively lacked a strong aerial threat at striker, with Jerry Yates winning 38.6% of his aerial duels this season, and Nahki Wells winning 37.2% himself.

On the other hand, Devante Cole has won 48.6% of his aerial duels for Port Vale this season.

This means that Luton would have a true target to aim at in the box, with the Hatters only ranking 17th in the league for successful crosses this season.

With Elijah Adebayo and Ali Al Hamadi most likely to be Luton’s target forwards when fit, Cole would give a reliable option to replace these players whilst they’re still injured.

4. He Can Elevate The Team Around Him

This may seem like a silly point with Port Vale sitting bottom of League One, however with Cole’s four assists in all competitions it shows how he helps the team around him.

This amount of assists would put him level with Liam Walsh for the Hatters, who is top of Luton’s assist charts.

His 12 goals and assists in only 23 games is impressive for the team he is playing for, and he could help shoot the Hatters to promotion in the second half of the season.

Do you think Devante Cole would be a good signing for the Hatters, Luton fans?
