Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth has provided fans with a message ahead of the side’s Boxing Day clash on Friday.
Gillingham, led by Gareth Ainsworth currently, sit 12th in the League Two table currently.
Furthermore, the side has picked up 30 points this season whilst also winning seven games, drawing nine, and losing five games.
Meanwhile, their theme of draws can be seen over their last five games, where the Gills have drawn four out of five.
However, the side’s theme of draws was halted on Saturday and was replaced with a loss as Gillingham lost 2-1 to Fleetwood Town.
In the game itself, the Gills were 1-0 having took the lead in the 14th minute through a Bradley Sack finish.
But, in the second half, the Cods were able to bring the game back into their grasp with a 53rd minute goal from Ryan Graydon and a 85th minute finish from Zech Medley securing the three points for Fleetwood.
Following the defeat, Gillingham fans expressed disappointment.
But, the side have the opportunity to improve the mood within the fanbase with their Boxing Day clash with Cambridge United at home.
Now, manager Gareth Ainsworth has published a message to fans ahead of the fixture.
Speaking to the Gillingham club media on their official website, Ainsworth stated: “We have got to make sure that we don’t get too down, and we get ourselves up for Boxing Day.
“It’s going to be a great occasion, with Neil [Harris] coming back with his Cambridge team. They are very well organised, and they are going to be a tough task.
“I believe that we can win at home. If we play like we did against Barrow in the first-half, we can blow anyone away, but we have got to do it for 90 minutes.”
Ainsworth also provided an update on players possibly returning with him stating: “Hopefully, we will get the two big strikers back, and Marcus [Wyllie] will be back.
“Conor Masterson will hopefully be back. All of these will be real positives for us if we can get them back for this run of Christmas games.
“I am going to have to change the team around a little bit, but we have got seasoned pros like Jonny Williams, Ethan Coleman, Max Clark and Shad Ogie on the bench.”
Now, fans may look towards the game on Friday to see if Gillingham can pick up three points.
